TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
April 30, 1970
PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Broderick,
Mr Lord, Mr Fenske and Mrs Hall
VISITORS Chief Marshal McNamara and Chief of Staff Turner
PATRIOTS DAY Mr Gaughan made the suggestion that the President of the Lions
Club ride in the convertible with the White Tricorn Hat recipient in future
afternoon parades Mr Gaughan has six extra felt tricorn hats with gold trim
in his possession
It was voted tljat the Chairman of the Town Celebrations Committee
thank, in writing, this year's Chief Marshal and Chief of Staff for a job
well done
All bills received were approved for payment The committee will
discuss payment of the High School Band at next week's meeting, and an
appropriate letter will be written
Mr Fenske has in his possession and will be responsible for the
costumes and instruments for the Spirit of '76
Mr Gaughan thanked Messrs McNamara and Turner in person on behalf
of the committee for their tireless energies on behalf of the Town
We received thank-you notes from Capt and Mrs Jenkins, Col and
Mrs Flinders, and Town Manager and Mrs O'Connell The Coast Guard had
sent regrets at not being able to participate in our parade and feastivities
prior to the onset of bad weather
USS LEXINGTON The Rev Kenneth Peterson of the Baptist Church will
deliver the invocation, and the Rev Frederick Cunningham of the Church of
Our Redeemer will give the benediction at the memorial service on the Green
on Sunday afternoon, May 3rd at two o'clock
MEMORIAL DAY Mrs Litchfield will ask Rev Handley to be our speaker of
the day She will invite, in writing, the High School Band and Jr Highs'
Band and two members of the Lexington clergy to participate in our parade
and program on the Green
Mrs Reed and Mrs Hall will invite the Youth Groups of Lexington
to participate in our parade
VETERANS DAY Mrs Litchfield will invite former Senator Saltonstall to be
our speaker of the day on November Ilth He and our planned feastivities
were "rained out" last year
