HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-02-05-TCC-min.pdf 4: 11 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 5, 1970 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Lord, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Chief Marshal Francis B McNamara, Jr James Edgar and George Gabriel - Lexington Minute Men Mrs Peck - Campfire Girls (862-5097) Mrs Bacon - Girl Scouts (862-3828) Elmer Gilmartin and Dulce Anderson - Rainbow Girls Sue Arance and Peter Grossimon - The Attic Steve KOon and Paul Nichols - Demolay Boys Charles Durkin and Walter Hatch - Lexington Youth Baseball Comdr Sherman and William Hosford - V F W PATRIOTS DAY Mr Barnes welcomed our visitors and filled them in on parade participation and details, including the parade makeup, route, and floats Mr Edgar suggested that the Sunrise Parade start from Munroe School , but this suggestion was not accepted for various reasons The Sunday afternoon program scheduled tentatively on the Green for April 19th has been cancelled Our Minute Men will be marching in Concord on that afternoon The above visitors reported as follows Lexington Youth Baseball expect to march about 100 boys in the Sunrise parade The Attic is contemplating entering a float in the afternoon parade The Rainbow Girls will march in both parades The Demolay Boys will march in both parades The Girl Scouts want to ask an out of town troop to march with them, and will notify the committee of their plans in a month's time Lexington's Light Horse Club and the 4-H Horse Team will participate in the Sunrise parade The Campfire Girls will march in the Sunrise Parade and may enter a float in the afternoon parade The Minute Men asked to have its non-marchers on our reviewing stand in their uniforms This was approved A special bus for the Minute Men will leave from the Episcopal Church Rectory on Massachusetts Avenue at approximately 115 PM on April 20th immediately following the Revere-Dawes ceremony at the Minute Man Statue on the Green The Fiske Hill ceremony has been changed to Saturday, April lith at 4 PM The V F W are working hard for more participation in the 2nd Division of the afternoon parade They asked to have a V F W Post Band to beef up that division also This is under consideration They report their State Commander will be present that day Mr Hosford brought up a matter of protocol , and that is that the V F W is the first and oldest veterans organization in the United States, and therefore, should lead the 2nd division The committee agreed this was correct It was suggested that the Fitchburg High School Band be the lead band in the 2nd Division, and that the Maynard High School Band be omitted from our invitation list, at their request The Northeastern Counter Guerilla Group will be marching in the afternoon parade Mrs Hall is to notify Chief Corr, William Fitzgerald, and Arthur Burrell of our next TCC meeting (Feb 12th) and asked that they attend Marilyn L Hall , Recording Secretary
