HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-01-22-TCC-min.pdf 409 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 22, 1970 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mr Gaughan, Mr Broderick, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Col Richard Zeoli Mr Neil Cronin ) Past Chief Marshals Rep Lincoln P Cole, Jr ) Francis B McNamara, Jr -- 1970's Chief Marshal PATRIOTS DAY Mr Fenske reported that Anthony's Restaurant would not be opened on Patriots Day unless TCC could guarantee a substantial number of people for a meal The Lexington Jaycees will not sponsor the House Decorating Contest any more They have formed a 1975 committee to consider a project for that big celebration This committee will function immediately, and will consider the costume contest idea from our committee as well as other possible projects They will let our committee know their decision The Past Chief Marshals present gave the committee their various sug- gestions for improving our parade Col Zeoli listed several suggestions as follows That his Chief of Staff, Francis McNamara, be this year's Chief Marshal That the general alignment of the parade remain the same That any veteranSgroups who come as our guests be in uniform That the 4th Div Marshal be appointed early in order to properly take over the total planning of that division That horses again be allowed in the parade - They added a lot to the parade That floats similar to the hippie float in last year's parade have to be allowed, as long as they follow parade rules That the Chief Marshal keep the 3rd Division of Minute Men in tight formation That the Lady Lexington float get into parade line early to avoid delays That Col Wyman 's instructions of the previous year were very good and were intergrated into Col Zeoli 's instructions The latter will submit a written report to this committee It was decided not to combine the 2nd and 4th divisions as there was really nothing to be gained by doing so More participation was suggested on the part of the veterans groups to increase the 2nd division OTHER SUGGESTIONS Rep Cole suggested sending the Spirit of '76 off early! More military units are needed in the 1st Division Mr Cronin is the Float representative for the Chamber of Commerce He said the winning floats will be duly marked for all spectators to see Floats create a good buffer zone between the horses and the fire engines More music is needed in the center of Lexington Bands should be notified to play marching through the center as well as in front of the reviewing stand The 4th Division should line up at Oak Street near the burial ground The Lexington Minute Men will participate in Sunday afternoon 's program, but the TCC will organize the program Mrs Litchfield will invite Linn Village Drum Band for this program and for the parade She will also invite the High School bands At next week's meeting, the plaque for Stoney will be discussed by the full committee for finalization Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
