HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-01-08-TCC-min.pdf 407 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 8, 1970 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall VISITORS James Edgar and Paul Bartel , Lexington Minute Men PATRIOTS DAY The Minute Men representatives had three items of business to discuss The first was more money to cover their collation and the cost of a bus specifically for the Minute Men on Patriots Day to transport them from their one o'clock duties on the Green to East Lexington for the parade Mr Lord will speak with the bus company and arrange for a trip to East Lexington specifically for the Minute Men Secondly, they again asked to lead the afternoon parade We explained that the 3rd division which they head and arrange is the high point in our parade, and if they were taken from it, the 3rd division would suffer greatly They agreed to remain at the head of the 3rd division, and will , in the meantime, try to get an accurate (as possible) idea of the size of the 3rd division for future parades, should they (the Minute Men) move up to lead a parade in the future And third, the Lexington Minute Men will participate in a program on the Green on Sunday, April 19th, and are considering taking over the planning of that program Mr Edgar will contact Mr Barnes with their decision The committee is in favor of turning over the planning of this program to the Minute Men The annual Fiske Hill ceremony will take place on Saturday afternoon, April 18th, at an hour to be announced The Minute Men are agreeable to this date and will participate in this program Lexington is in charge of arrangements for this ceremony this year A remembrance for Lawrence E Stone, Lexington's faithful bugler for many years, will be discussed at this meeting Presentation of same is to take place on Patriots Day 1970 (Meeting date is January 15, 1970) Each member of this committee is to bring to this next meeting ( listed above) at least TWO parade theme ideas to be discussed by the whole committee Hope- fully a theme will be selected for 1970 Also to be discussed at our next meeting are Combining our 2nd and 4th divisions in afternoon parade Which bands and marching units are to be invited Review of the roster, check list, and guest list Luncheon arrangements This committee spent $5,288 29 actual money in 1969, and we have asked for a larger budget for 1970 Future meetings January 22nd -- Past Chief Marshals " 29th -- Civic Organizations February 5th -- Youth and Veterans Organizations -- Fire, Police and Civil Defense Personnel Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
