TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
January 8, 1970
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall
VISITORS James Edgar and Paul Bartel , Lexington Minute Men
PATRIOTS DAY The Minute Men representatives had three items of business to discuss
The first was more money to cover their collation and the cost of a bus specifically
for the Minute Men on Patriots Day to transport them from their one o'clock duties on
the Green to East Lexington for the parade Mr Lord will speak with the bus company
and arrange for a trip to East Lexington specifically for the Minute Men
Secondly, they again asked to lead the afternoon parade We explained
that the 3rd division which they head and arrange is the high point in our parade, and
if they were taken from it, the 3rd division would suffer greatly They agreed to remain
at the head of the 3rd division, and will , in the meantime, try to get an accurate (as
possible) idea of the size of the 3rd division for future parades, should they (the
Minute Men) move up to lead a parade in the future
And third, the Lexington Minute Men will participate in a program on the
Green on Sunday, April 19th, and are considering taking over the planning of that program
Mr Edgar will contact Mr Barnes with their decision The committee is in favor of
turning over the planning of this program to the Minute Men
The annual Fiske Hill ceremony will take place on Saturday afternoon,
April 18th, at an hour to be announced The Minute Men are agreeable to this date and
will participate in this program Lexington is in charge of arrangements for this
ceremony this year
A remembrance for Lawrence E Stone, Lexington's faithful bugler for many
years, will be discussed at this meeting Presentation of same is to take place on
Patriots Day 1970 (Meeting date is January 15, 1970)
Each member of this committee is to bring to this next meeting ( listed
above) at least TWO parade theme ideas to be discussed by the whole committee Hope-
fully a theme will be selected for 1970

Which bands and marching units are to be invited
