TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 4, 1969
PRESENT Mr Gaughan, Vice Chmn , Mr Lord, Mr Broderick, Mr Fenske, Mrs Hall
VISITOR Mrs Uhrig, League of Women Voters
UNITED NATIONS DAY Mrs Uhrig will order fifty posters for display throughout the
Town The Poster Contest is scheduled as usual , but the Essay Contest is not as
welcomed by the students in the High School The possibility of the Junior High
students entering the Essay Contest was discussed If the Essay Contest is ended,
another project to be taken over was a possible Audio Visual Aid Library of United
Nations material for the High School Library The Rotary Club, which donates prizes
for the Essay Contest, were not too receptive to this latter idea More discussion
will follow before any decisions are made Mrs Uhrig will inform the TCC of any
new developments
Mr Fenske will check with members of the Jaycees as to their feelings on
donating a tree to a Town park or historical site, since all Lexington schools have
trees given them by the Jaycees in honor of U N Day
Mr Gaughan will check with members of the Lions Club to see if they would
care to undertake another project in connection with U N Day, since they have
already supplied all Lexington schools with U N flags Perhaps they have
another civic betterment project in mind
VETERANS DAY A speaker of the day should be found as soon as possible Mrs Hall
will contact Rep Cole on this matter
PATRIOTS DAY Mrs Litchfield will write to Congressman Morse for advice as to how
to approach NASA (possibly through his office) on having an astronaut as our guest
of honor in April "Rusty" Zweiker, who did live in Lexington for a time was one
name suggested
The committee voted to use the Leroy Brown Fund for TCC's overloaded budget
for this year, should it be necessary
Our next meeting will take place on Thursday evening, September 18, at 8 PM
in the Selectmen's office
