TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 27, 1969
PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Belcastro Mrs Reed,
Mr Broderick, and Mrs Hall

MEMORIAL DAY TCC will look for a speaker of the day TCC will also invite the
Youth groups of Lexington to march and the Jr and Sr High School Bands The
Legion will serve a collation after the parade The holiday will be celebrated on
Monday May 26th, as per State Law Mr Lewis is our Legion contact for planning
PATRIOTS DAY Ronald Tatro will try to contact Mr Beckwith about having his antique
Pick up Truck in the parade If he cannot reach Mr Beckwith, TCC will notify Mr
Beckwith that the committee approves Mr Tatro's request He will call Mrs Hall on this
Mr Greeley and Mr Oberteuffer want to enter a float in the afternoon parade
They do not represent any particular group, but a group of young adults wish to build
a float working around the issues of today (End the war in Vietnam; Stop the ABM
project; Support China's entry to the United Nations, etc ) They were asked to
attend our Float meeting scheduled for April 3rd We did refuse them permission to
use canned music on the float
Mr Belcastro will notify Dr Foley that the Lexington Light Horse Club will be
allowed a maximum of twenty horses to he ridden in the afternoon parade We, TCC,
will require a release from them, in writing, to protect the Town should any accident
occur This permission to ride in the parade is on a trial basis this year, and does
not set any precedent whatsoever They will be in the 4th division
We have had acceptances from former Senator Saltonstall and Congressman F
Bradford Morse to be our guests on April 21st Gov Sargent has sent his regrets
Mrs Litchfield will tell the Mass Dept of Commerce who wish to enter a float
with Miss Massachusetts on it in our parade that no commercial advertising will be
allowed on the float Mrs Litchfield will ask Mr Broderick to send them an ap-
plication and set of regulations governing floats in our afternoon parade
The following groups will be marching with us on April 21st
Needham Girl Scout Drum and Bugle Corps
Maiden Square and Compass Club, originally the Grotto Oriental Band ( 16-24 people)
Holy Name Band (They will have to have more money next year)
St Theresa's Drill Team (Mrs Litchfield will ask for both the Jr and Sr groups)
Methuen High School Cadet Corps
Linn Village Drum Band will be offered $100 00 more to march in the parade This
would be in addition to their performance on the Green on April 20th
Mr Gaughan made the motion, and it was carried, that we would give the Holy
Name Band an additional $50 00 if the money is available
Mrs Litchfield will ask the Wakefield High School Majorettes to march They
have indicated an interest in this to the committee
The roster should be finalized by April 10th for printing The Check List was
gone over again

Mr. Lord announced that the shuttle bus would leave Cary Memorial Library
on the 21st at 12 15 and 115 Capt McNamara will notify the Minute Men of
the time of the last bus, so that they can arrive in East Lexington on time
Changes in the Division Marshals are as follows
2nd division Melbourne B Hunt, Past Commander Stanley Hill Post #38
3rd division John Ward, Past Commander, Lexington Minute Men
4th division John J Garrity, Grand Exalted Ruler, Lexington Order
of the Elks
Mrs Hall will check on luncheon arrangements, and confirm the reservation
of a powder room for the ladies on April 21st
The committee received a letter from a young girl in Chicago, Illinois by
the name of Judy Burnett She had read about Lexington in school books and
wanted pictures and information Mrs Litchfield will write to Judy and tell
her we are sending appropriate material to her Mrs Reed will see about having
the letter printed in the Minute-Man
Next week is our Float Meeting in the Selectmen 's office, 8PM, April 3rd
