HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-02-20-TCC-min.pdf 39 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 20, 1969 PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mr Belcastro, Mr Broderick, Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Reed VISITORS Capt McNamara, Chief of Staff; Police Chief James Corr William Fitzgerald, Bd of Fire Commissioners Ellison Beckwith, Antique Cars; Rep Lincoln P Cole, Jr PATRIOTS DAY_ Chief Corr raised the question of the necessity for two parades in Lexington Traffic problems were discussed the detours used last year seemed good Mr Fitzgerald was asked to limit the number of fire apparatus in the parade Mr Beckwith was asked to limit the antique cars The possibility of having forms printed similar to the Float Application forms which would be used for antique car applications was discussed Mr Beckwith suggested that the antique cars follow the antique fire engine in the parade Captain McNamara was asked to put pressure on local organizations for more marching bodies in the afternoon parade The make-up of the parade was discussed The Captain suggested that the Lady Lexington Float he in front of the open cars carrying the dignitaries to assure a smoothness and continuity in the parade The following bands have accepted Fitchburg High School ; Reading High School Woburn High School The Maynard High School Band had to refuse our invitation February 27, 1969 Meeting PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mr Lord, Mr Broderick, and Mrs Litchfield VISITORS Col Zeoli , Chief Marshal and Capt McNamara, Chief of Staff PATRIOTS DAY Mrs Litchfield was asked to type a list of band and marching unit acceptances Mr Lord reported the Lexington High School Band is all set for the Patriotic Song Fest on the Green on Sunday, April 20th Linn Village Drum Band will perform before the Song Fest We have had acceptances from the Athol High School Band and Tufts ROTC Unit Mr Neil Cronin, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, wants the float trophies to be given out at the reviewing stand This matter was discussed no decision reached Mrs Litchfield will send out all dignitary invitations since the Belfry arrangements are final and a definite format for the day is planned Mr Belcastro and Mr Lord will be in charge of the dignitaries' cars Mr Lord will make the arrangements for the shuttle bus The committee went over the Check List The next TCC meeting will be on Thursday, March 6th in the Selectmen's office at 8 PM Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Hall Recording Secretary
