TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
January 30, 1969
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Broderick, Mrs Reed
and Mrs Hall , and Mr Gaughan and Mr Belcastro
VISITORS Mr Mansfield Patterson - Elks
Mr Ralph Hall , Jaycees
Mr Leslie York - Chamber of Commerce
PATRIOTS DAY
Mr Gaughan went over the general plans for the Patriots Day celebration
and then opened the meeting for discussion
Mr Patterson asked if a marching unit could accompany a float from the same
organization The committee agreed unanimously that having an organization's
float and marching bodies together as one unit is the best plan
The parade theme was announced and well received And it was announced
that groups could carry their banners or flags ( in good taste) in the parade
Mr Broderick felt a Float Meeting would be necessary and announced that
one would be scheduled in the near future Mr Hall mentioned it was difficult
to get men to build floats, and was happy to know there would be a Float Meeting
to discuss construction hints, and so forth
Mr Patterson asked if out of town Elks men could march with the Lexington
Elks We, TCC, would officially invite them in writing after discussing the
matter at the end of the meeting Mrs Hall will call Mr Patterson and advise
him of the committee's decision Mr Patterson asked if the TCC paid for out of
town groups, such as the Elks, to come We informed him we cannot do this The
civic groups in Lexington sponsor their own outsiders as their contribution to the
Town We will invite them, when asked to do so by the Elks, only
Mr York announced that the Chamber of Commerce will continue to award prizes
(trophies) for the float contest winners He needs to know when and where the
float judging will take place Mr York will inform the committee what particular
man from the Chamber will be in charge of this program
Mrs Moyle will again cater the reception following the parade
Mrs Litchfield reports that Norwich University will be marching, as will the
ROTC Northeastern University Band and Counter Guerilla Group She will ask the
Legion Champions Girls Drill Team (50 girls) to participate for $100 00 Mr Lord
will ask the High School Band and Junior High Band for the afternoon parade Mrs
Reed and Mrs Hall will invite the Youth and Veterans groups of Lexington to meet
with us next week On February 13th, the TCC will meet in the Conference Room of
Cary Memorial Hall Please make this special note
