HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-11-21-TCC-min.pdf 383 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 21 , 1968 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Belcastro, Mr Lord, Mr Gaughan, and Mrs Hall VETERANS DAY It was agreed the flag should not be brought to half mast on Veterans Day, as it was this year, because the day honors both the living and the dead Special thanks go to Mr Lord for acting as Chief Marshal Pro-tem He lined up the parade at the last minute It is requested that in future parades, the two Town horse teams be listed separately, I e 4-H Club Horse Team, and the Light Horse Team Mr Belcastro will have copies of Col Flinders' address made up for TCC members PATRIOTS DAY For the time being, the committee agreed that Patriots Day should be celebrated on April 19th, a Saturday this year This could be subject to change however Mrs Hall and Mrs Litchfield were asked to purchase two briefcases for TCC members Mr Barnes will call Joe Rooney, President of the Chamber of Commerce, to get the Chamber's feelings on celebrating this holiday on a Saturday Mrs Litchfield will answer the letter from the Lexington Girl Scouts asking that children from foreign lands march with them in the Sunrise Parade The TCC approves the idea A letter from the Lexington Jaycees tells us there will be no House Decorating Contest this year, as there has been very little participation or cooperation from the homes on Massachusetts Avenue TCC members should be prepared to come up with theme ideas for our next meeting which will be on Thursday, January 2y 1969, at 8PM in the Selectmen's Office Mr Neil Cronin feels more recognition should be given the float winners in the afternoon parade, either with a sign or signs depicting the winning floats, or with signs being carried in front of the floats, or' in any other way -- this will be discussed further 384 NEW BUSINESS Mrs Haskell Reed (Thelma) of 76 Lowell Street is our new TCC member, and she was heartily welcomed by the committee Her home phone is 646-0628, and her business phone is 276-2503-4 Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary 1
