HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-09-26-TCC-min.pdf 375 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 26, 1968 PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Severance, Mr Lord, Mr Belcastro, Mr Sperduto, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Warren Hawkins, Comdr VFW Frank Sherman, Sr Vice Comdr VFW Wallace Ormiston, Past Comdr VFW James Edgar, Minute Men Neil Cronin, American Legion Lincoln P Cole, Jr , Chmn , Board of Selectmen A letter of resignation was read from Raymond Lewis of this committee The committee listened with regret and no action was taken We await word from the Board of Selectmen VETERANS DAY Mrs Litchfield will ask for Col Grumbles as Speaker of the Day Col Wilbur J Grumbles is the new Base Commander She awaits the form to be filled out for a marching unit from the Base, but informs us that the Jody Drill Team will not be ready for our parade Mrs Litchfield will invite the National Guard to march in our parade, as well as the Lexington Light Horse Club She will also invite the clergy and bugler to participate in programs on Veterans Day and UN Day Mr Lord will contact the High School Band for the parade The VFW will feed the Band first so that they can proceed to Reading for the football game, with tables set up outside, weather permitting Note There will be no game on the holiday, but the Band will be fed first The VFW will invite veterans from Vietnam to march It was suggested a direct invitation go to each veteran There will also be newspaper coverage Mr Cronin mentioned arranging for the Color Guard ahead of time The VFW feel they need more money for their colation on Veterans Day Mr Gaughan asked all veterans groups to submit to the committee, in writing, an estimate of next year's expenses, so that TCC can figure our yearly budget appropriation accordingly UNITED NATIONS DAY The Veterans groups were asked to be present on the Green at the 7AM program When the program is set, the groups will be sent a copy The next meeting of TCC will be on Thursday, October 10th, 8PM, in the Selectmen's Office Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
