TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 16, 1968
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord,
Mr Sperduto, Mr Lewis, and Mrs Hall
MEMORIAL DAY The roster was finalized and the proper names were
filled in for the clergy duties, recitation of the Gettysburg Address,
and so forth David Sampson, a High School senior, will deliver the
Gettysburg Address Mr Stone will be the bugler, and there will be
an echo by a High School Band member
Mr Lewis is organizing a firing squad and flag detail
The Hayden Twirlers and Fifers & Drummers will march in the parade
General McGonagle will be the Speaker of the Day
MISCELLANEOUS Mr Gaughan announced that two or three pieces of
bunting were left over from Patriots Day decorations, and he has given
them to Mr Mazarrell of the Park Department
Mrs Stephen Packard (862-7375) , representing the League of Women Voters,
was unable to attend tonight's meeting due to her child's illness
Mrs Hall will ask that she attend next week's meeting to formulate plans
for UN Day
Mr Barnes read a letter to the committee from Mr Robert C Hilton,
head of the Cary Memorial Library, announcing the coming centennial cele-
bration of the Library, which will begin in November of this year and
carry over until April of 1969 We were asked to give our thoughts and
any helpful suggestions for this celebration to a Mrs Norman Stolz
USS LEXINGTON MEMORIAL CEREMONY Mr Lord will ask Mr Mazarrell to take
down the wreath placed at the flag pole at the USS Lexington ceremony on
May 5th
The Town of Lexington was presented a color framed picture of the USS
Lexington to be hung possibly in the Public Facilities Building near the
Battle Green for all to view It was donated to the Town by a former
USS Lexington shipmate who served under Admiral Fitch during the Battle
of the Coral Seas in 1942
This move would have to have the approval of the Board of Selectmen,
Chamber of Commerce, and the Historical Society

Mr Rex Turcotte, head of the CV-2 Minute Man Club, asked again about
the placing of the plaque which his club donated to the Town in memory
of the men lost in the Battle of the Coral Seas
