TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 2, 1968
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord,
Mr Lewis, and Mrs Hall
VISITORS Mr Herbert Miller, Chief Marshal - Memorial Day Parade
Chmn Lincoln P Cole, Jr - Board of Selectmen
PATRIOTS DAY Mr Maxner, of the Spirit of '76, wants to be closer to
the head of the parades, so as to look a part of them, and not way out
ahead The committee appreciates his wishes, and can only say that it
promises to do the best it can, under the circumstances, at the time
The Board of Selectmen sent the committee a letter of appreciation for
its Patriots Day efforts
The committee went over a letter to the Board of Selectmen from the com-
mittee concerning the 200th celebration of April 19, 1775 Mrs Hall
will type it for Mr Barnes' signature
RE-APPOINTMENTS The following TCC members were re-appointed for a three-
year term (until May 1971 ) Chairman Raymond B Barnes; Ralph Lord; and
Bernard Belcastro
USS LEXINGTON CV-2 CEREMONY Mr Lord has arranged for a taps echo at
this service
Mr Lewis will call the Veterans groups in Town for representatives to
be present at this service, and for a representative color detail
Mrs Hall will call the clergy with a definite arrival time on the Green
and for their participation as follows
Rabbi Bernat - Invocation
Rev Handley - Brief, appropriate talk
Father Hogan - Benediction
MEMORIAL DAY The Senior and Junior High Bands will participate in the
parade The Campfire Girls will also march The Police Department will
provide two cruisers for the parade, one at the head, and one at the rear
The Hayden groups and the Little League will not be able to participate
Gen Lennon is unable to be the Speaker of the Day Mrs Litchfield will
ask Gen McGonagle to perform this act She will also call Mr MacQuillan
and ask that he read Gen Logan's Orders of the Day at the Munroe cemetery
ceremony
A High School student will be named this week to recite the Gettysburg
Address at the cemetery ceremony at Munroe

Mrs Litchfield will call Mrs Jack Mitchell of the League of Women
Voters and ask that she send a representative from the League to meet
with us on Thursday, May 16th, to begin planning for UN Day
The committee members present agreed that the TCC cookout will be
scheduled for Thursday evening, June 13th, at 60 Ledgelawn Avenue
This will be our final get-together until after Labor Day
