HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-04-25-TCC-min.pdf 361 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE April 25, 1968 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Severance, Mr Belcastro, Mr Sperduto, and Mrs Hall MEMORIAL DAY The Chief Marshal for the parade will be Herbert G Miller His Aides will be Maurice D Healy and Cornelius P Cronin Gen Lennon has been Invited to be our Speaker of the Day and we await word ifrom him USS LEXINGTON CV-2 CEREMONY Rev Handley and Rabbi Bernet have accepted our Invitation to participate in this ceremony on Sunday, May 5th, at 2PM on the Green Mrs Litchfield will invite a priest of the Catholic faith to also be a part of the program Mrs Litchfield will see if Mr Stone can be the bugler, and she will inform Mr Barnes by phone as soon as she knows the arrangements Mrs Hall will call Mr Lord and ask that he talk with Mr Gillespie about providing a taps echo She will also ask Mr Lord to thank Mary Farris - and thanks goes to Mr Lord as well - for the fine arrangements made for the NORAD Band Concert on April 19th PATRIOTS DAY We are still looking for armbands) Mrs Hall wrote a letter of appreciation to Mrs Rogers, hostess of the diningroom at the Lexington Motor Inn, for her cooperation at our April 19th luncheon Several bills were approved, and thank-you letters were read Mrs Litchfield is asked to thank the following for their assistance on April 19th Park Department, Police Department, Air Force at Hanscom, Mrs Moyle, The Comm Officer of the PA System, Mr Maxner, all the clergy who marched and participated in the Sunrise Parade, i e Rev Adams, Handley, King, Harding, and others Mr Barnes will thank Messrs Rooney, Broderick, Lombard, and Reed for their help with the Sunrise Parade Mr Belcastro will thank the dealers who supplied the motorcade cars, and the drivers from the High School student body It was suggested that recognition should be publicly paid to Douglas Maxner for his many years (over twenty) of devoted marching in the Spirit of '76 362 We had a letter from David B Little, Chairman, Minute Man National Historical Park under the direction of the US Department of the Interior, National Park Service, asking that Lexington join the Minute Man National Historical Park Advisory Commission in preparation for the celebration of the bi-centennial of the 19th of April 1775 Mr Gaughan suggested the possibility of some year combining the second and fourth divisions of the afternoon parade so that there would be three strong divisions Mr Barnes and Mr Belcastro felt that as long as there are veterans to march, we need a second division for them Mrs Litchfield has reserved the Selectmen's Office for our meetings through June 6th Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
