The Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Lexington
Lexington, MASSACHUSETTS 02173
Gentlemen,
Article XV of the General By-Laws of the Town of Lexington,
adopted April 3, 1967, charges the Town Celebrations Committee with
"planning and carrying out the proper observance of April 19th" The
committee interprets this literally, and will continue to plan the
celebration of April 19th, rather than "Patriots Day" as designated
by recent legislation We will use this interpretation, unless
directed otherwise by the Board of Selectmen
The Town Celebrations Committee is unanimously opposed to
celebrating April 19th on Mondays for the sake of weekend convenience
This is not a State holiday, but rather a local and historical holiday
We urge the Board of Selectmen to take all necessary action
to bring about the repeal of the recent legislation, or the deletion
of "Patriots Day" from the bill
Respectfully,
THE TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall
Recording Secretary
