TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 7, 1968
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Severance,
Mr Lewis, Mr Belcastro, Mr Lord, Mr Sperduto, and Mrs Hall
PATRIOTS DAY Mrs Hall will order 250 route maps from the Town Engineering
Offic at a charge of two cents apiece (Mr John McSweeney)
Acceptances for parade participation
Gloucester High School Band and Athol High School Band
The First Naval District advises us that the Tufts Naval ROTC will represent
the Navy We have already had an acceptance from Tufts Naval ROTC; Mrs
Litchfield will call Commander Sheppard to see if we can also have a
marching unit from the First Naval District, Boston
Representative F Bradford Morse will be a guest for the day, as well as
Major Gen and Mrs K. B Lemmon, Commdr Fort Devens Senator Edward M
Kennedy has sent his regrets
Methuen High School Cadet Corps will be marching with us The Agawam High
School Band want to march, but we can't use them this year Mr Lord will
see that a reply to their request is sent them
Mr Sperduto will notify Mr Beckwith that he may organize (with Dr Hunt's
assistance) not more than twelve antique cars to be in the parade We want
to know the names and models of those cars and the year of the cars, for
publication in our parade roster Note Mr Beckwith and Dr Hunt are to
receive parade orders which will contain instructions for the antique cars
Mr Jason Korrel of the Concord Celebrations Committee has asked that
Lexington have more representatives at the Fiske Hill ceremony, especially
a selectman or two Mrs Litchfield will notify the selectmen by mail of
this ceremony now, and advise them that particular details will follow
The probable date will be April 14th
Mrs Litchfield will write to Linn Village Drum Band and ask that they be
ready to perform at 2 30 PM on Sunday, April 21st, on the Green The High
School Band will perform at approximately 3PM Linn Village will be asked
to play following the High School Band performance, but this decision will
be left to their discretion The song fest ( in conjunction with the High
School Band) details will be worked out between Mr Lord and Mr Gillespie,
i e marching route, time of arrival onto the Green, and so forth
The TCC will write a letter to the Board of Selectmen at the next meeting
(March 14th) to go on record as being opposed to celebrating April 19th on
Mondays for weekend convenience sake This is not a state holiday, but
rather a local and historical holiday, and this committee is asked to
celebrate the "19th of April" as per the Town General By-Laws, Article XV

USSLEXINGTON DV-2 UNIT MINUTEMAN CLUB In answer to a
letter from this
group, Mr Barnes will write to Mr Rex Turcotte to say that the TCC will
be happy to organize the veterans groups, clergy, bugler, and so forth
for a memorial service to take place on Sunday, May 5th, at 2PM
The final Float Meeting will take place next week (March 14th)
