HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-02-15-TCC-min.pdf 34 5 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 15, 1968 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mr Sperduto, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Gaughan, Mr Lewis, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Col Richard F Zeoli - Chief of Staff Mrs Pennell - Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Mr Cronin - Chamber of Commerce Mr Hank Miller - Demolay PATRIOTS DAY This was the first Float Meeting in conjunction with Patriots Day Mr Sperduto went over a few pointers with our visitors A second Float Meeting will be scheduled In the near future Mr Gaughan asked if It would be possible to have the winning floats so designated in the parade with a sign of some kind on the floats Mr Cronin answered that it was felt no special attention needs to be shown; that all floats should have an equal chance for exhibition in the parade Mr Sperduto said that all floats are not entered for prize reasons, but more as a con- tribution to Lexington's parade CORRESPONDENCE The Norwich University Band has had to decline our invitation, after already answering In the affirmative The school 's vacation comes the week of the 19th Mrs Roeder reports the Red Cross ambulance will be in the Sunrise Parade only Mr Lawrence Stone (Stoney) will be the Bugler for the Sunrise Service on the Green Mrs LaPorte, of the Lexington Girl Scouts, announces that that the scouts will enter a float in the afternoon parade The scouts want to march in the afternoon parade, if the Sunrise Parade should have to be cancelled Also, the Needham Girl Scouts would like to march in the afternoon parade The committee felt this was quite feasible, and they would be placed in the 4th Division Mr Lord will tell Mr Gillespie, Director of the High School Band, that the Patriotic Song Fest scheduled for Sunday afternoon, April 21st, is all set and ask that he make up an appropriate program for the Green It was sug- gested that all schools be notified, through Mr Gillespie's office, of the song fest, and that each school make up a large phaccard to mark its attend- ance and numbers at the song fest Mr Maxner of the Spirit of '76 is in need of a fifer Please be on the lookout 346 The Follen Church has a new minister Mrs Litchfield will ask that he and the new minister at the Church of Our Redeemer give the invocation and benediction at the Sunrise Service on the Green on April 19th Two corrections The correct name for the group from Somerville should read "Enunciators Drum A Bugle Corps Inc " Also, the Commanding General at Fort Devens is Major General K. B Lemmon He will be invited by this committee to be the Speaker of the Day on Memorial Day, but this invitation will follow the Patriots Day invitation Mr Barnes will write to the Board of Selectmen with the following suggestions in conjunction with Patriots Day 1975 First, that a permanent committee for this special celebration be established to arrange for all special activities having to do with Patriots Day 1975 Two, that the regularly appointed Town Celebrations Committee for the year 1975-76 take charge of the Patriots Day parades, as befits their normal duties on this committee And finally, that members of the permanent committee for Patriots Day 1975 be made up of all past members of the Town Celebrations Committee, and especially the past chairmen, these members preferably being those who served full terms of office The next TCC meeting will be on February 29th in Estabrook Hall at 8PM for the Patriots Day 1967 movies to be shown Mr Belcastro's pro- jector will be needed Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary I � ,
