TOWN CELEBRPTIONS COMMITTEE
January 12, 1967
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr. Broderick, Mr. Sperduto, Mr. Lord,
Mr. Belcastro and. Mrs. Hall, Chief. Marshal William Brenchick was
also in attendance,
VISITORS Mr Lincoln P. Cole, Jr., Chairman, Board of Selectmen
Mr. Neil Cronin, Chamber of Commerce
PATRIOTS DAY Mr Cole again reminded the committee to send the Spirit of '76
well ahead of the afternoon parade and the morning parade, so as not to hold
up the marchers
Mr Cronin mentioned that the spacing of the floats throughout the
divisions proved an excellent change, as was the pre-parade judging of these
floats in East Lexington He said he felt the reviewing stand was in an
excellent location in last year's celebration, to the left of the Minute Man
Statue on Massachusetts Avenue.
Mr. Cronin also said that the lith Division Marshal, who often is the
winner of the Distinguished Service Award, needs help from someone with parade
experience. Perhaps a TCC member could help organize this division. Another
suggestion might be to have an Honorary Division Marshal and a Division
Marshal for the lith Division. Tt is agreed that we need many more people in
the lath Division
Mr. Brenchick asked about having signs on the winning floats for all
along the parade route to see. It was felt that this might dampen the feelings
of the other float participants, and that the spectators would probably become
judges themselves upon seeing the signs,
Mr. Brenchick will attend the next Minute Man meeting and authorize
them to staff their own 3rd Division,_as well as set up the parade order in -
that division,
Mr. Barnes stated that if the Sister City committee should extend
an invitation to the Mayor and his wife of Delores Hidalgo and the Mexican
Consul in Boston to our Patriots Day reastiv:itiec , there is no TCC budget
to cover the expenses.
Mr Barne outlined the duties of the Chief Marshal for Mr. Brenchick.
His duties would include appointing his parade staff, working with this committee
to determine the makeup of the unit , where they are to he placed and in what
order, marking the parade route, writing the parade instructions on the roster,
and after the roster is printed, taking over as sole chief of the parade.
