TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
October 6, 1966
PRESENT Chmn. Barnes, Mr Belcastro, Mr. Lord, Mr. Gaughan,
Mr. Broderick and Mrs Hall,
UNITED NATIONS DAY The green ceremonies will begin at 7:00 a.m.
Mrs. Litchfield will write to Mr William Roger Greeley to invite
him to attend these ceremonies.
Mrs. Litchfield will also invite the following groups to send
representatives to the Green ceremonies The Jaycees, the League
of Women Voters, the Lions Club, the Board of Selectmen, the
Rotary Club, the Elks, and the four Veterans Organizations in
Lexington. This will be done by phone, with Mrs Severance and
Mrs. Hall assisting.
Mr. Lord will take care of plans for the annual tree-planting •
ceremony, this year to take place at the William Diamond Junior
High School. The ladies on the Town Celebrations Committee will
take care of any invitations to this ceremony that Mr. Hibbard
would have extended. The ceremony will take place on Monday,
October 24th, in the morning at William Diamond Junior High School.
Mrs. Litchfield has been asked to bring along to the early Green
ceremony the Town Celebrations Committee arm bands.
Miss McIntyre, at the High School, will have a small presentation
of awards in the Science Lecture Hall for all of the Essay Contestants,
which presentation will include a United Nations movie as well
Mr Belcastro will contact the Retail Division of the Chamber of
Commerce to receive its okay on the displaying of the United Nations
posters- i.n the-variousstores- throughout town. The -ladies -on-this.
committee will distribute these posters (ordered from the World
Affairs Council. in Boston) when the ',Okay" is granted.
Mrs. Litchfield will call the president of the Lions Club to see if
the club wishes to give a United Nations Flag to Selectman Cole to
present to a. representative of the new Bridge School during the early
morning United Nations Day ceremonies on the Green. This school seems
to be the only school in town without a United Nations Flag.
VETERANS DAY Mrs. Litchfield will drop a note to Mr. Gillespie of the
High School Band thanking them for their anticipated participation in
our parade, and reminding them of the collation at the V.F.W. Hall for
all. band members, as well:_as other parade participants. It was
suggested the band be picked up directly after the collation by the
school buses for their trip to the Reading Football Game.

Mr. Barnes will check with Mrs Litchfield about the possibility
of Father Casey as the speaker of the day at the Green ceremonies
Captain Leahy was not able to accommodate us.
PATRIOTS DAY Mr. Haskell of Concord's Public Ceremonies and
Celebrations Committee has been notified of this committee 's
decision to split costs for the Air Force Bagpipe Band.
We received a letter from the Lexington Minutemen requesting
$1150.00 for their collation on April 19th of next year. They
host the entire 3rd Divi ion. This committee appreciates their
early request, thu: helping us to better estimate our next
year's budget.
Our next Town Celebrations Committee meeting will be on October 20th
i.n the Selectmen's Office at 8 00 p.m. The four Lexington Veterans
groups will be meeting with us at that time.
