HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-09-22-TCC-min.pdf 271 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 2.2, 1966 PRESENT Mr Broderick, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Severance,, Mr Lord, Mr Sperduto, Mr. Belcastro and Mrs. Hall. VISITORS Charles Sisk, American Legion Raymond Lewis, American Legion Edward Fitzgerald, Veterans of Foreign Wars MISCELLANEOUS Our next regular meeting will be held on October 6th at 8.00 p.m. in the Selectmen's Office. The P. A. equipment will be picked up at the American Legion Hall (by Sherman Hall) and set up for the High School football game on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Hall will return said equipment to. the Legion Hall on the following Tuesday evening. VETERANS DAY Col. Tonetti has had to decline our invitation, asking that he be speaker of the day. Ray Lewis will invite Captain Leahy of 106 Blake Road in Lexington to be that speaker. He will inform this committee of the results. Mrs. Litchfield will invite all previously participating groups to march again this year. She wi.l.l ask two clergymen to give the invocation and benediction at the Green ceremonies The four veterans groups will meet with this committee on October 20th to go over final plans. UNITED NATIONS DAY Monday, October 24th - The High School assembly ide; was not well received. Therefore, the awarding of prizes to the winners of the Essay Contest will probably take place on the Green at the United Nations Day Program. The Poster Contest winners will probably be awarded their prizes in a like manner. The Library will be happy to display the top ten posters, being careful not to divulge any winner ahead of time. Mr. Lord will follow through en the Essay Contest winners, seeing to it that snapshots of their trip to New York City and. the United Nations Building are procured from them for our future publicity. Mr. Russell Corktmi, president of the Lions Club, tells us they are happy to donate the United Nations Flag for the next school. (William Diamond Junior High School) 272 Mr. George Rowe, Jr., president of the Jaycees, tells us they are happy to donate the tree for planting; on United Nations Day at the next school. (William Diamond Junior High School.) Mr. Lord will check with Diamond Junior High to see if they plan to put on any United Nations Day Program. If Diamond Junior High doesn't work out for any reason, then Mr. Lord will check into having the new Bridge School so honored on United Nations Day Mrs Litchfield will ask Rev. Handley to give the invocation and benediction at the Green. APRIL 19th This committee feels we should split the cost of the Air Force Bagpipe Band with Concord, as the band is a definite asset to our parade. We feel our Town Celebrations Committee should meet with Concord's Celebration€ Committee prior to April 19th for smoother working relations. Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Hall Recording Secretary
