Gaughan, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Severance, Mr. Broderick, Mr. Lord, Mr. Belcastro and Mrs. Hall. VISITORS Mrs. Frick, League of Women Voters (862-5629) Mr Ernest Crerie, Elks (862-0610) UNITED NATIONS DAY October 2)i, 1966 The Elks will provide the prizes for the Poster Contest. First prize will be a $50.00 bond, and second prize will be a $25.00 bond We will forward to the Elks' Secretary any material we might receive pertinent to the contest and the day. Mr. Gaughan suggested the posters be judged early and possibly display the top ten posters in the Library for all to view. No decisions would be announced, however, as to the winning entries, until the day arrives. Mrs Frick checked with Rotary, and the Rotary Club will again sponsor the trip to New York and to the United Nations Building as before, but with a $250.00 limit in mind. The trip would be for the two winners of the Essay Contest, plus two accompanying teachers. Mrs Pennell will handle details of the Essay Contest for the League, and Mrs. Cooper will handle the Poster Contest details for the League. Miss McIntyre at the High School will work with Mrs. Pennell, Mrs. Frick and Mr. Lord to come up with an appropriate presentation at a High School Assembly of the awards to winners of the Essay Contest. This assembly might be for participating classes only The Essay Contest title has been decided. The Rotary Club is in favor or this type of assembly for the awards its president will present. The aforementioned committee will discuss also some possible recognition for runner-ups in theEssayContest. Mrs. Litchfield will contact the Lions Club in regard to the United Nations Flag which they usually donate. She will also contact the clergy for the Green program on United Nations Day She will contact the Jaycees about their donating a tree for the annual school tree-planting on United Nations Day She will invite all participating groups, civic and otherwise, Mr. Greeley, and the Selectmen to attend the tree-planting program as well as the program on the Green. Mrs. Hall will call the World Affairs Council for fifty UN posters, and will contact the Library about an appropriate display there in honor of UN Day. Mr. Belcastro will. check on the large UN flag to he raised at the Green L ceremony 270 I � 1 Mr. Broderick will take care of the program on the Green, making the necessary arrangements. Mrs. Severance will procure a proclamation for UN Day and take care of publicity. V}'TFRANS DAY - November 11th Col. Tonetti has been invited to be our speaker at the Green ceremonies. If he is unable to accommodate us, Mrs. Litchfield will invite Captain Leahy, and Admiral Si.egl:aff's replacement, in that order. September 22nd will. be the meeting set to have the Veterans groups with us for Veterans Day planning and co-ordinating. Mrs. Litchfield will send invitations to all past participating groups, and Make calls to all participating local groups for the parade and Green ceremonies This committee voted to have its chairman ask for sufficient funds from the Selectmen in the amount of $500.00 for the proper completion of our annual commitments.
