TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 3, 1966
PRESENT Chmn. Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Severance, Mr. Broderick,
Mr. Gaughan, and Mrs Hall. Our Chief Marshal, Mr Graustein,
was also present.
VISITORS Dr. William O. Way, Rotary
Stanley Brown, Jaycees
Leonard Hopkins, Elks
Mr. Barnes briefed the visitors on April 19th data and then asked
for their comments.
Dr. Way said the Rotary will again sponsor and put on the Pancake
Breakfast on the morning of April 19th. It will be held in the
Episcopal Church and will cost 990 per person. Mark Moore is
chairman of this event. The breakfast normally starts at 7 a.m.
and runs until noon. Mr. Broderick suggested it might be worthwhile
to start at 6:30 a.m. Dr. Way will take this up with the club.
This is the club's largest money-making project. This committee
will give it publicity. Dr. Way announced also that the Rotary will
enter a float in the afternoon parade. The float application should
go to Donald Jenkins. Since we need marchers in that parade, Dr Way
will attempt to corral a group of Rotarians to do just that.
Mr. Hopkins of the Elks will also try to get out some Elk marchers
for the afternoon parade, though he wasn't very' confident about this.
The Elks will also enter a float.
Mr. Brown will try for Jaycees marchers also, and the Jaycees will enter
a float. They will again sponsor the House Decorating Contest, as well
as sell hot dogs and balloons throughout the day, based primarily in the
driveway of the Douglass Funeral Home.
It-was-agreed-a-notIce-shouId-go-out-to-the-other-groups (civic) in
town, which did not attend this meeting, asking that they recruit
marchers for the afternoon parade, and keep us posted on their group
activities. Mr. Graustein said he would make himself available to
talk to these groups, should they so desire.
Eligibility for winners in the Float Contest will be limited to Lexington
units only. Float applications will be going out within two to three
weeks.
CORRESPONDENCE Mr Pearson from Connecticut thanked us for literature
sent him last year about our Patriots Day activities. He attended them
and was impressed. He asked for more literature, and may possibly be
coming again.
