TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
January 13, 1966
PRESENT Chmn. Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Severance, Mr. Lord,
Mr. Broderick, and Mrs. Hall.
VISITORS: Ernest Graustein, Chief Marshal, April 19th, 1966
Past Chief Marshals Donald Guiler and Lincoln Cole
APRIL 19th Mrs. Hall is to call Mr. Gaughan to inform him we would
like the Air Base's movies of last, year's April 19th activities to be
shown next Thursday, January 20th in Estabrook Hall at 8 p.m. The
three lady members of this committee will call all interested people
involved last year to be cur guests at this showing. Mr. Gaughan is
to also find out about the April 19th movies taken in 1964 which
Jack Rudd seems to possess.
Mr. Guiler suggested the second division be incorporated into the
first division, because of the small number of veterans marching in
the second.
The antique cars should somehow be limited in number,
Mr. Guiler said he felt the communications set-up last year was good.
Also, the float judging in East Lexington worked out well. Mr. Broderick
remarked that we should try not to be late with our float invitations.
Mrs. Litchfield will ask for. the Red Cross ambulance for both parades.
Mr. Cole suggested that the Spirit of '76 get ahead of the parade by
about five minutes, since their marching pace is so slow.
Lady Lexington will. remain in the parade instead of in the motorcade,
as a place of honor. The Policewomen are slow marchers, and the parade
staff will just have to keep pushing them to keep pace.
Mr:-Graustein mentioned that-we-need-marchers-as fillersbetween-the-
bands.
between-thebands. The Policewomen may have to be approached as possible fillers.
Mr. Cole suggested we invite Rev. Floyd Taylor to meet with us when we
have the Fire and Police Departments with us. This would be in con-
junction with the property problem of the parsonage. A change in the
parade route will be discussed, although the present route down
Bedford Street has Town property on both sides of the street, and this
street is wider.
The R.O.T.C. units at Norwich University have accepted our invitation for
April 19th. Also the unit at Boston University' (Pershing Rifles, R.O.T.C.
Band, Drum Majorettes, and the Scabbard & Blade) . The Reading High School
Band and Baton Squad have also accepted.

A separate paper in the parade orders should accompany the orders
reminding all units of "No maneuvering to the rear" etc., so as to
impede the progress of the parade
This committee will have a meeting following the movies in
Estabrook Hall next week Our theme "PATRIOTISM - OUR HERITAGE"
remains the same and is unanimously approved.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Hall
