HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-11-18-TCC-min.pdf 223 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 18, 1965 PRESENT Vice Chairman Gaughan, Mr Broderick, Mrs Litchfield, Mr. Healy, Mr Lord, Mr. Sperduto, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Charles Sisk, Americah Legion Commander Raymond Lewis, American Legion A Thomas Ferry, American Legion David Somers, Jaycees Richard Michelson, Jaycees Earl Batson, Veterans Of Foreign Wars William Hosferd, Veterans Of Foreign Wars Arthur Miller, Minute Men William Brenchick, Marine Corps League Lincoln Cole, Chairman, Board of Selectmen PERMANENT RAISING OF THE FLAG Police Chief Corr will have "No Parking" signs up and enforced from the Arlington side of Muzzey Junior High School to Woburn Street; and from Clark Street to Harrington Road. The Yankee Division Band will play for us at a 3 p.m. concert, thanks to the efforts of Dave Somers of the Jaycees The band will 'be situated beside the Guests/ Platform on the Green. Parking facilities for band members will be available behind Hancock Church in the parking lot. There were 500 Proclamations printed. Mr. Lord will distribute some to both Libraries and to every school. The committee will mail out copies to the participating organizations in the near future. Rev. Taylor will give the invocation. Mrs. Litchfield will contact Rev. Lund of the Pilgrim Church for the Patriotic Prayer, and Mensenior Casey for the Benediction. She will continue to contact the clergy, if she cannot procure either of the aforementioned. There will be two color guards. The old color guard will lower the flag already flying. The new color guard will raise the permanent colors They are as follows Old Color Guard New Color Guard Arthur Miller, Minute Men Don Albertine, Minute Nen James Broderick, Marine Corps William Brenchick, Marine Corps Raymond Lewis, American Legion A T. Ferry, American Legion Earl Batson, V. F. W William Holford, V F. W. 224 All members of the color guards will wear white gloves. The two groups will reherse their duties at noon on Sunday, November 21st. The Minute Men expressed their willingness to raise the permanent colors no matter what the weather. The other Veteran groups concurred. If the weather was bad, the raising would take place following the band concert and ceremony at Cary Hall. Mr. Gaughan, our Vice Chairman, and Mr. Burnell, a Selectman, will be in charge of welcoming our guests as they arrive on the Battle Green We have had acceptances from the following invited guests ii Congressman F. Bradford Morse Major General and Mrs O'Neill and Aide Brig. General and Mrs McGonagle Lt. Col. and Mrs Bruno Bertelli Mrs Ruth Morey Mr. and Mrs Alan Adams It was voted that we have a small reception for the invited guests and dignitaries and parade staff It will take place at the Old Belfry Club directly after the ceremonies on the Green. Mrs. Moyle will cater this reception. Mrs. Litchfield will call Congressman Morse's office to verify the time of the Ceremonies and invite him to the reception. Mrs. Hall will wrap sixty Proclamations as scrolls and have them at the Green for distribution to guests who cannot attend the reception. The remainder of the scrolls° will be given out at the reception to our honored guests. Mrs. Hall will have all remaining Proclamations near at hand to the Green for the Chief Marshal's uses or anyone else in charge. Mr Gaughan will contact John Carroll of Public Works to see about obtaining some bunting for the two stands on the Green Mrs Hall is to type a list of dignitaries for Selectman Cole. She is also to notify Selectman Sheldon of the reception, and cordially invite him and his wife to attend. It is to be noted that the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion offered to monitarily support and assist at a reception for parade participants, if one is in order 225 Mr. Lord reported he and three High School boys will report to the Green at 2.30 en Sunday to assist Mr. Barnes with the public address system. The Press is to be alerted again. Mr Gaughan will call the radio stations, as well as Eleanor Roberts, Streeter Stuart, and Jack Borden, and Mrs. Gardiner of the Globe. Mrs. Litchfield is authorized to write thank-you letters to WilliasrHall, the Bandmaster, and any ether guests or participants requiring written appreciation. These letters will go out before our next meeting, since we don't meet for another two weeks, namely en Thursday evening, December 2nd. The committee will wear their Tricen hats in the parade.
