HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-11-11-TCC-min.pdf 219 TOWN CFLFBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 11, 1965 PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mr. Gaughan, Mr. Broderick, Mrs. Litchfield, Mr. Healy, Mr Lord, and Mrs. Hall VISITORS Mr. Michelson, Jaycees Mr. Nicoll, Minute Men Mr. Sisk, American Legion Commander Mr. Edgar, Minute Men PERMANENT RAISING OF THE FLAG Mr. Michelson will see ,about procuring a band from Fort Devens. He will relay this information to Mrs Litchfield. If he is not successful, she will try to obtain a band from the 1st Naval District. Mr. Michelson will be Chief Marshal of the parade. Rev. Handley will give the invocation. Rabbi Rosenblum cannot give a patriotic prayer, but hopefully Rabbi Bernat will be back in town in time to do it. Father Casey will be asked to give the benediction. Mr. Michelson suggested having an old flag flying, to be replaced and presented to Mrs Morey, president of the Lexington Historical Society, Mrs Morey will be invited to march, if she so desires. The Guest Platform will be placed on the Massachusetts Avenue side of the Green. The concert chairs will probably be placed on the opposite side of the Green. Mr Michelson will work out the final details Of placement of 'properties and personnel. The small rostrum will be the 'speakers' platform. The parade will assemble at the Muzzey Junior High School at 3 .15 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 1965 Step—off time will be at 3.30 p.m. Mrs Litchfield will see to it that Mr. Michelson receives all necessary ars bands for" his parade staff at our next meeting en November 18th. Mr. Michelson will invite his parade staff to meet with us next week for parade briefing. Mr Barnes will take care of preparing a Proclamation for this day Copies should be put around town in strategic spots, and a copy of °it in the Minute Man paper. All civic and 'youth groups will be contacted by Mrs. Litchfield and Mrs. Hall. Ii 220 • Mr Michelson will make up a plot plan for the Green and roster for the parade. Mr. Barnes will ask the Police Department to put up "No Parking" signs from Woburn Street to the Munroe Cemetery driveway. He will also arrange for parking facilities at the Green for our dignitaries' automobiles. Mrs. Litchfield will write to our invited dignitaries, asking that they be on the Green (on the Guests Platform) at 3 .45 p.m., and that parking facilities will be available for them at the Green. Mr Lord will arrange to have two High School boys to assist Mr. Barnes with the public address system. They are to be on the Green at 2.30 p.m. Mr. Nicoll will ask Mr. Stone to play his bugle at the ceremony (Retreat and To The Colors) Mrs. Litchfield will invite a local representative of the Department of Interior to be a guest on our Guests' Platform. Mrs Litchfield will invite the follmwing groups to march The Jody Drill Team 3rd Rocket Battalion (HJ( 101st Artillery Mrs Litchfield will invite the following dignitaries to sit on the Guests' Platform General and Mrs. O'Neill and an Aide (Commander at E. S. D.) Col. Albert Schiely and wife (Vice Commander at E. S. D.) Col. Robert A. Barrarre and wife (Base Commander, 3245th Air Base Wing) Mr. Alan Adams and wife (Publisher of Minute Man Paper Mrs. Litchfield will call Mrs Moyle about a reception following the Green ceremonies This need not be an elaborate affair. Mrs. Hall is to type resters and get them to Mr Barnes. She is also to get publidity to the Minute Man by Tuesday noontime. 221 Mrs. Litchfield and Mrs Hall will mail rosters out before our next meeting. VETERANS DAY It was suggested that on future Veterans Day celebrations, the parade march back to Cary Hall (or some other designated place) for disassembly from the Green; this presents a much neater picture. Also, it was suggested there be a reviewing stand on the way back for disassembly. This committee appreciates the fine job Lincoln Cole did for us at the Green ceremony. This committee also appreciates the fine cooperation received from the Park Department and from the Parade Marshal, Edward Fitzgerald, Mrs Litchfield will write thank—you letters to the afore—mentioned people. Captain James Leahy would be happy to be a future speaker for us on either Memorial Day or Veterans Day.
