TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 9, 1965
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mr. Gaughan, Mrs Severance,
and Mrs Hall
UNITED NATIONS DAY Mrs Litchfield has been asked, to
invite representatives of the following groups to meet
with this committee next Thursday, September 16th, at
8.00 p.m. in the Selectmen's office
Rotary Club
Jaycees
Elks
Chamber of Commerce
League of Women Voters
United Nations Day is on Monday, October 25th. The flag-
raising ceremony will take place on the Green at 7:00 a.m.
Mr. Broderick will be asked to take care of the color
guard for the Marine Corps League, and Mr. Healy will be
asked to take care of the same for the American Legion.
Mrs Hall is to see Mr Nyren at Cary Memorial Library
about a UN Day display in the library windows or other
appropriate places, and about flying a UN flag.
Mrs. Hall is to call the World Affairs -Council and order
fifty UN Day posters, which will be delivered to all the
stores, and so forth, around town.
Mrs. Severance is to call Miss Maclntyre at the High School
to see if she wants some money for expenses for a UN Day
_pr_ogramm -at the school. - -
Mrs. Litchfield is to notify Miss Keefe at Maria Hastings
School that the annual UN Day tree planting is to be at her
school. Miss Keefe should be asked to report to this
committee any planned UN Day program in conjunction with
the tree planting ceremony, so that committee members and
others can plan to attend such a program.
Mrs. Litchfield has been asked to write a letter of
congratulations from this committee to Brig Gen. Kiley,
from his former rank of Colonel. "Mrs Litchfield is to call Mr. Lawrence Stone and ask that
he be bugler on United Nations Day, October 25th, at 7 a.m.
on the Green.

VETERANS DAY Possible speakers for Veterans Day could be
Col. Riley, Assistant Commander at E. S D.
Cel. Jordahn, Watertown Arsenal
Col. Carroll, Reserves, 94th Troop Carrier Wing
Mrs Litchfield is to check with Cel. Passales about their
marching with us en Veterans Day
Check points for the next Town Celebrations Committee meeting
United Nations Day• Discuss a speaker for this day
Invite the Selectmen to attend.
Veterans Day Discuss a speaker for this day.
Invite Youth organizations to
meet with us.
Remind Mr. Healy to meet with
the four Veterans organizations
(American Legion, Veterans Of
Foreign Wars, Marine Corps
League, and Minute Men) about
their parts in the Veterans
Day program.
Next meeting - September 16th - 8 p.m. - Selectmen's office.
