TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 20, 1965
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mr. Broderick, Mr Sperduto,
Mrs Severance, Mrs Hall, and Mr DiGiammarino (briefly).

The previous minutes of this committee were acceptedo
A letter from Mr Healy, a committee member, reported he had
called Rev. Clark on the plans for the May 30th church
service at Hancock Congregational Church, and that .he had
also sent notices of these plans to all Veterans organizations
and interested parties. Mr Healy was out of town on business.
Mr. DiGiammarino reported that the High School Band will march
in the parade on the 31st, and that the Gettysburg Address will
be given by Peter Clark, a senior at the High School. Peter
will recite the Addresa at the Munroe Cemetery.
Cel. Kiley has graciously accepted our invitation to be Speaker
Of The Day.
Mr. Cronin reported that Rufus Mc Quillan, son of a Union
Veteran, will deliver General Logan's Orders Of The Day for
the First Memorial Day, in George Foster's place, at the
Munroe Cemetery. Mr. Foster will ride in the parade and to
the Old Burying Grund close to the Green. Mr. Sperduto will
have a car for Mr. Foster on the 31st. Mr. Foster has been
named Honorary Chief Marshal.
-The-Hayden-Fifers & Drummers-have -accepted- our invitation to --
march also. Mrs. Hall will call Mrs. Johnson at the Hayden to
call her attention to the fact that there will be refreshments
at the Legion Hall for the Hayden marchers following the parade.
Mrs. Hall is to call Mr. McConnell of 14 Hill Street and ask
that she call Mr. Foster for any plans for the cemetery wreath-
laying. Mr. Foster will assure her the procedure will be as
always.
A letter from the Board of Selectmen thanked this committee
for a job will done on April 19th. This was gratifying to hear.

The Board of Selectmen received a letter from the Massachusetts
Selectmen's Committee secretary, Mr. Monihan, asking that we
have a program _for Flag Day on June 1tth. This committee is
awaiting word from Mr. Cole as to .whether or not the permanent
raising of the flag has passed Congress. If it does, we will
plan a program appropriate to the holiday and the permanent
raising of the colors.
Mr. Barnes has written to the Board of Selectmen asking that
they designate a permanent spot for the U. S. S. Lexington's
C-V2 Minute Man Club's Memorial Plaque.
Mr. Barnes has notified Lt. Corr of our Memorial Day
activities, and of the parade route on the 31st.

Word has just been received from the Hayden Fifers & Drummers
that they find it impossible to march on May 31st after all.
