TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 6, 1965
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mr. Broderick, Mr. Spenluto,
Mr. DiGiammarino, and Mrs. Severance
VISITORS Hazel LaPorte, Girl Scouts
Mrs. LaPorte mentioned the crowded situation at the Adams
School on the morning of April 19th. The driveway was too
small for the first division of the Sunrise parade. Also,
the Girl Scout and Camp Fire flags were mixed up somehow.
Mr. Barnes suggested using the Follen Church parking lot
to alleviate the congestion.
At the Munroe School, the Brownies should fall in behind
the Council Color Guard. Mr. Barnes suggested contacting
the American Legion to ask their help in having the young
people fall in at the appropriate places, since the
American Legion is at the Munroe School to be of assistance
anyway with the Elementary Children.
Mrs LePorte asked that all Girl Scout float applications
and information for April 19th be directed to her personally.
She informed the committee that the Girl Scouts will be
unable to march on May 30th, but that the Senior Scouts
are being contacted to handle the wreath—laying.
MEMORIAL DAY Rev. Clark of the Hancock Church will be happy
to have the memorial service on Sunday morning, May 30th.
He will reserve thirty or forty places in front of the church
for the veterans, but we are to let him know if there will be
more than that. They will be askedtomarch in together as
a group about fifteen minutes before the start of the service.
That would be at 10:15 aim.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Hall
Recording Secretary
(Assisted by Mrs. Severance)
The wreath—laying ceremonies on May 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Minute
Man Statue went off well. Rev. Handley and Father McLeod were a
part of the ceremony, as was Admiral Aubrey Fitch from Newcastle,
Maine, the principle speaker. A representative group of the
Lexington Minute Men were also on hand. This ceremony was in
memory of those loft in the Battle of the Coral Seas from the
U. S. S. Lexington.
