TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 9, 1965
This meeting was a joint effort with the Town Celebrations
Committee and Representatives of the various organizations
in town to consider having a Lexington Day at the New York
World's Fair. Those present from these organizations were
Premiere Performance Company - Mrs. Elsa Sullivan and
Mrs. Doris Pullen
Rotary Club ,,- Dr Robert Crooke and
Dr. William Way
League of Women Voters - Mrs J. Alan Cooper
Jaycees - Allan, Mead
Minute Men - Robert Brown
Chamber of Commerce - Christopher Venier
Mr. Barnes outlined the data sent to this committee. He noted
there would be fifteen to twenty minute performances; that
there could be art demonstrations at any time. He estimated
the cost to be between $500.00 and $1500.00, since one bus,
carrying approximately thirty-seven people, could run to
$300.00. Mrs Pullen suggested that car pools might be cheaper.
COMMENTS Dr. Crooke suggested a joint Concord-Lexington Day,
but was reminded that there was a Concord Day last year.
The Premiere Performance Company would go, provided their
expenses were paid. They stressed the necessity for much
publicity of Lexington Day, not only locally, but at the
Fair itself.
Mrs. Litchfield gave some background on Dedham Day at the Fair
last year. Trains-provided-their-transportation. The town
matched the funds raised by its townspeople Sixty-three
people went by bus also. The total cost was $2400.00 for a
two-night stay. Mrs. Litchfield suggested we send the Hayden
Twirlers and the High School Gymnastic Team.
Rotary would support this day, as they feel their money would be
well invested. They also suggested taking care of any car pools
to the Fair.
Mr. Mead, of the Jaycees, seemed unreceptive to a Lexington Day
at the Fair.

The Minute Men said they would be glad to take part in a fund-
raising activity in conjunction with the various town civic
groups.
CONCLUSIONS The general opinion of this meeting was to go
ahead with plans to have a Lexington Day at the World's Fair
It was recommended to form a sub-committee to take charge of
all arrangements. This committee would be made up of
representatives from our active town organizations, and it
would be responsible for all details of this project. This
committee would report to the Town Celebrations' Corimittee.
August 27th is an open date, and Mr Barnes will check into
this He pointed out that our Town Meeting is coming up on
March 15th, and we would need to submit a budget for this
project before that date, hopefully to be approved by a
town vote.
Respectfully submitted,
