HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-02-04-TCC-min.pdf 1. 53 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 4, 1965 PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs Severance, Mr. Sperduto, and Mrs. Hall VISITORS Elks - Edwin Blomquist and Leonard Hopkins Lions - George Gabriel Jaycees - Allan Mead Chamber of Commerce - Joseph Rooney Mr. Barnes welcomed our visitors, and thanked them for taking the time to come to this meeting. He announced that the Rotary will be entering a float, and they will be having a Pancake Breakfast again this year right after the Sunrise parade, probably in the Hancock Church. The Rotarians will not be running the Ball this yea r, and would, in fact, like to pass this function on to the Lexington Minute Men for their sponsorship. The Jaycees will enter a float, will have their usual booth in the Douglas Funeral Home driveway, and will hold the House- Decorating contest. They would like the Miss Lexington contestants to ride in open convertibles close to their float, since the Miss Lexington Pageant will take place the following weekend. This would involve about five convertibles. The Lions will again award the White Tri-Con Hat to Lexington's Outstanding Citizen for this year. They will also sponsor the Road Race, starting at 10:45 a.m, on the 19th of April. They will be selling tri-con hats to the public, and they will enter a float. The White Tri-cma Hat Committee this year consists of William Reevis, Joseph Rooney, and Kenneth Blodgett. The Elks will enter a float and a marching unit in the afternoon parade. They asked if we had any suggestions for any other function they could undertake, and Chairman Barnes suggested their taking upon themselves the crowd control on the Green, on Sunday afternoon when Linn Village Drum Band performs They seemed very agreeable. The Chamber of Commerce representative was asked to find out if the Chamber again plans to handle the Float Judging and Trophies CORRESPONDENCE Mrs. Litchfield received letters from the following groups stating they would participate in the afternoon parade Athol High School Band and Reading Police Association's Baton & Drill Tears 1 541 r The latter group wish more money for transportation. Last year's $50.00 was increased to $65.00 this year. Mrs. Litchfield was asked to invite the Grotto Oriental Band. At next week's meeting, we will be going over the Check List. On the 18th of February, Mrs Litchfield will invite the Military Groups to attend Minute Men, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Marine Corps League. And on February 25th, Mr. William Fitzgerald, Fire Commissioner, and Chief Rycroft of our Police Department will be asked to attend. The April 19th luncheon will take place at the Battle Green Inn at twelve noon, and the menu will consist of Boneless Fried Chicken and fikinis. Mrs. Litchfield will be inviting Governor Volpe and those of the standard Guest List, now that luncheon arrangements have been set. Mrs. Moyle will be available for the reception following the afternoon parade at the Belfry Club. Mrs. Hall will confirm luncheon plans with the Battle Green Inn, and also ask that the room closest to the diningroom be reserved by the Town Celebrations Committee.
