HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-12-03-TCC-min.pdf 141 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE December 3, 1961t PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs Severance, Mr. Sperduto., Mr. Healy, Mrs Hall VISITORS Mr. Weinstein, Lexington Civil Rights Committee and the Rev. Lindsey from the Methodist Church came to discuss Lexington Civil Rights Committee ideas for April 19th, 1965. Their thought would be to have a large tractor trailer parked near the Green on April 19th onto which townspeople would load cartons of food for the North Carolina or Mississippi areas. These gentlemen sought our support so far as publicity for this project being included in our own write-ups. Another visitor of the evening was the Chairman of our Board of Selectmen, Mr Lincoln P. Cole, who told us the Board of Selectmen thought our November 11th celebration in Lexington was the best yet. This committee was pleased with his comments. FINANCES Mrs Litchfield was authorized to pay $100.00 to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, attention of its Commander, for their hosting after the November 11th parade. APRIL 19th Theme FOUNDATIONS OF FREEDOM Our first publicity release should be in the January 7, 1965 Lexington Minuteman. We have had letters of acknowledgement from the following Headquarters, 1st Naval District Coast Guard Fort Devens Mrs Litchfield was asked to write to the following groups as stated. Norwich University - We will pay them $200.00 plus their noon meal or $300.00 alone. Ivanhoe Lodge, Knights of Pythias in Arlington - We will acknowledge their offer to participate in the parade and welcome them. 142 fl Holy Name Band in West Roxbury - We will ask for the details on their money requests toward their participation. Linn Village Drum Corps - We will invite them to tentatively perform on the Green. on Sunday afternoon, April 18th and on April 19th. Lexington Minute Men - We will invite them to march on April 19th. MISCELLANEOUS We received a newspaper write-up from the Dedham Drum and Bugle Corps concerning their performance at the New York World's Fair. The Lexington Little Leaguers are added to the Youth Groups for the Sunrise Parade This committee voted to purchase a Public• Address System. Mr. DiGiammarino, in charge of buying this system, will report to, Mr. Barnes. The Air Base at Bedford have offered their technical assistance to us when needed.
