TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
November 12, 1961{
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs. Severance,
Mr. Healy, Mrs. Hall
FINANCES
Our Treasury balance as of this date is $865.27. This committee
voted to send $50.00 to the Lexington High School Band in care
of its director, Mr. Donald Gillespie, thanking the Band and
Leader for its fine participation in our Veterans Day Parade.
Its musical selections and cadence were particularly fine.
We also voted to send $50.00 to the National Guard far its
transportation here to march with us on Veterans Day.
VETERANS DAY
It was generally agreed the Veterans Day parade and Green program
went very well. It was suggested that at any further gathering,
such as was had at the Heritage Room after the parade, the
seating arrangement be such that ne person face another's back.
A block pattern might be better.
Mrs. Litchfield will write General O'Neill thanking him, his
wife, and aides for their participation on Veterans Day, and
officially inviting him (and company) to be with us on April 19th.
Mrs. Litchfield will write thank you notes to the following
groups for their parts in Veterans Day ceremonies: the
Commanders of all military groups and Col. Passales.
Mrd Hall will—write thank you notes to the following groups for
their parts in Veterans Day ceremonies Mr. Cooper (Boy Scouts),
Mrs. Leary and Mrs Woodward (Girl Scouts), and Mrs. Carlson
(Campfire Girls and Bluebirds).
GENERAL:
Mrs. Hall was requested to round up all of 196141s minutes of this
committee for tabulation by Mrs Lusk. The final minutes will be

APRIL 19th
Mrs Litchfield will write to the following groups inviting them to
participate in our April 19th programs
Fort Devens 18th Army Band and Marching Unit
Coast Guard District Marching Unit
1st Naval District Band and Marching Unit
Norwich University Band
Suggestions for a chief marshal will be welcomed, When selected,
more attention should be paid to the arrangement on the Green as
well as in the parade itself of the Chief Marshal, his Aides, and
their duties clearly defined. A Vee—shaped formation is
suggested on the Green facing the Minuteman Statue and Flagpole
Another suggestion for our theme is "Faith in Freedom". We need
other suggestions.
A write—up should go in the local papers reminding people to be
courteous during ceremonies on the Green.
P.S. Mr. Weinstein, Lexington Civil Rights Committee, will visit
us at 8:00 p.a. to discuss their ideas for April 19th. He
may have one or two others with him.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Hall, Recording Secretary
