TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 24, 1964
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr. Healy, Mr. Sperduto,
Mrs. Hall, Mr. DiGiammarine
The committee signed and sent a get well card to Mr Gaughan last
week.
CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Johnson, Harrington Principal, is happy to have the United
Nations Day ceremony. He will let Mr. DiGiammarino know the time
later. The Harrington pupils will send out invitations to the-
proper officials including the Selectmen.
UNITED NATIONS DAY
Mr. Paul Mazzerall, Park Department, has chosen a spruce, and will
tend to the planting details. Mrs. Litchfield turned over the
plaque to Mr. Healy, which Mr. Mazzerall will mount later.
Mrs. Cooper of the League of Women Voters has engaged
Mr. Stillman Williams to speak at the High School assembly for United
Nations Day. No final decisions have been made as to the date of this
assembly or as to the time and manner of awarding the prizes for the
essays and posters.
The ceremonies at the Battle Green will be held at 9 a.m. on
October 24th. It was suggested there be a combined color guard of
Veterans groups to make up the United Nations colors. The Veterans
of Foreign Wars will be asked to raise the United Nations flag.
Mr. Sperduto is checking on the United Nations flags with Mr. Gabriel
of the Lions. They will be placed alternately with American flags
VETERANS ORGANIZATIONS:
Mr. Edward Fitzgerald is the new president of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars. Mr. Raymond Lewis is the new American Legion Commander. Mr. Ward
is head of the Minute Men. Mr. Di Mello heads the Marine Corps League,
and Mr. Foster heads the Sons of Union Veterans.
APRIL 19th
Civil Rights Committee called to request permission to sell Equality
Badges next Patriots Day. They will visit our committee in the
future.

It was voted to send Commissioner Fitzgerald $50.00 for last April's 1
collation. They had not previously submitted a bill.
Mr. Sperduto will check with Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Baltz for the
Belfry—Drum cut used by the 250th Anniversary Committee.
NOVEMBER 11th
Parade forms at Munroe School by 10 A.M. Exercises on the Green
at 10 20 A.M. If the speaker (General O'Neill) accepts,
Mrs. Litchfield will write him and invite him to march with his
aides
The High School Band is all set.
Mrs. Beardsley resigned from this Committee as of this meeting,
as her husband has been transferred from this area. We accepted
her resignation with deep regret.
