LEXINGTON TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 10, 1964
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mr. DiGiammarino,
Mr Sperduto, Mr. Healy, Mrs. Hall
Mrs. Litchfield announced that the balance in our treasury as of
August 31, 1964 is $1015.27.
Mrs. Litchfield will bring in to our next meeting a get-well
card to be signed by,all committee members and sent to our ailing
member, Mr. Leo Gaughan.
The subject of storing the drums and costumes of the Spirit of '76
trio was brought up. A likely spot would be in a town building,
properly marked as property of the TCC This will be looked into
further.
NOVEMBER 11th - VETERANS DAY
The parade will leave from Munroe School and proceed to the Green
for appropriate exercises The selectmen will be invited to march
We have in writing the assurance that the 3rd Battalion 101st
Artilliary National Guard from Bedford will send a marching unit
The Veterans of Foreign Wars have offered to provide a collation
following the parade at their headquarters.
Mrs. Litchfield will contact General O'Neill to be our speaker
at the Green. If this doesn't work out, she will contact
Col.,Barrere
OCTOBER 24th - UNITED NATIONS DAY
Mr Basuto .gill contact Dr. Crooke 0f the Limns Club concerning their
contribution of a United Nations flag.
Mrs Litchfield will contact Mr Mead of the Jaycees concerning
their contribution of a tree for planting at a school She will
also write to principal Johnson at the Harrington School about
arrangements for this year's tree-planting Mr DiGiammarino
is chairman of the schools' participation in United Nations Day.
Mr. Sperduto is chairman of the program at the Green and will see
to the arrangements for displaying the United Nations flags around
the Green.
Mrs Litchfield, in writing to Mr Johnson, will eventually ask him
to invite Mr Greeley to attend the tree-planting ceremonies at his
school. We of TCC will invite Mr Greeley to ceremonies at the Green.

Mr Rudd or Mr Barnes will check with the Chamber of Commerce about _l
United Nations Day displays
Mrs Hall will contact Mrs Cooper of the League of Women Voters on
the essay contest, poster contest, High School assembly, etc The
Chamber of Commerce will award to the winners of the essay contest
a savings bond, rather than a trip to New York or elsewhere. This
contest is for seniors only. The Elks will award to the winners
of the poster contest a $50.00 bond and $25.00 bend. This contest
is for 7th through 11th graders.
The League of Women Voters will sponser the speaker for the High
School assembly's United Nations Day program. His subject concerns
United Nations' activities in Cypress.
Mrs. Litchfield will write to the following groups to confirm their
participation (probably with color guards) in the parade and at the
Green. Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Minute Men
and American Legion.
Mrs. Beardsley will take care of the publicity in the Lexington
Minuteman and any other suitable publications
Mrs. Litchfield will call Lawrence Stone concerning the musicians
for the flag raising ceremony
Mr. Barnes will notify and obtain Police Department approval for
all United Nations Day activities.
Mrs Litchfield will invite Father Murphy of Sacred Heart Parish to
officiate for the clergy at the ceremonies at the Green. He will
be asked to give the invocation.
The ceremonies at the Green have been scheduled for 9:00 A.M.
This meeting was adjourned at 9 55 P.M.
