HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-03-19-TCC-min.pdf 95 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 194 1964 PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mr. Gaughan, Mr. DiGiammarino, Mr. Rudd, Mrs. Litchfield, Mr. Sperduto and Mrs. Beardsley VISITOR Kingston Howard, Chief Marshal SUNDAY PROGRAM: It was voted that the Linn Village Drum Band begin the program at 2 30 on April 19th, playing until 3 o'clock. The Patriotic Song Fest by the Elementary Schools will last until 4p.m., followed by another 30 minutes of the Linn Village Drum Band. The Historic Houses will be open at the usual cost for visitors Mrs Beardsley reported that Maribeth Leonardo had the maps from last year for the Historical Guides. FLOATS Mr. Rudd has sent out thirty—seven float applications APRIL 19th INVITATIONS Acceptances Brig. Gen. McGonagle, Lexington; Mr. and Mrs. Jason Correll, Dr and Mrs. Francis McDonald of Concord; Col. and Mrs. Eric W Jordahn of the Watertown Arsenal; Senator James J. Long; British Consul General J N. 0. Curie or Vice Consul J. A. D. Stewart—Robinson. Cdr. Harding of the Coast Guard declined, but accepted for Capt. Ellis L. Perry and Mrs. Perry of the 1st Coast Guard District. The Falmouth Band has accepted, but the Lowell Technological Institute's Pershing Rifles declined. The Stanley Hill Post of the American Legion sent a list of invited posts from surrounding towns. U N. DAY PLAQUES _ Mrs. Litchfield has received the plaques. One will be given to Mr Mazerall of the Park Department for installation, and the other three go in our files. CLERGY The church chosen in rotation to officiate at the morning parade ceremonies are Invocation, Rev. Robert B. Howard, Church of Christ; Benediction. Rabbi Haskell M. Bernat, Temple Isaiah. CHIEF MARSHAL. Mr. Howard asked that the Boy Scouts supply a list of Eagle Scouts who will assist him in order that they be properly briefed in advance. 96 He has chosen all Division Marshals except the fourth, who should be someone active in the community. Names were suggested by the committee for Mr. Howard to choose from. The Chief Marshal's Aides will be James W Broderick; Lincoln P. Cole, Jr.; Raymond E. Lewis. Division Marshals are as follows 1st - Ernest J. Graustein; 2nd - John F Bonasera; 3rd - The Minute Men are appointing; 5th - William E. Fitzgerald. As aides will be Wilbur R. Hyatt, Cornelius Cronin, Edward W Turner, Jerome F Garrity, Leo Poplawski, Clarence Bentley, and Robert DeMello. Civil Defense is setting up the mobile units and walkie talkies for the Division Marshals. There was a discussion as to whether honored guests in cars should precede the Spirit of '76 or follow. The committee is leaving the decision with Mr. Howard as to what is best for the parade. Mr. Howard will have meetings in April with his Division Marshals and then with Marshals and Aides. He will have a pre-parade briefing Sunday, April 12th. Distribution of rosters will be up to the committee. Mr. Howard suggested inviting prominent town officials who have been helpful to the committee in past years to sit on the Reviewing Stand. This will be voted on later. Mr. Rudd has lined up seventeen convertibles for use in the parade. PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM: Mr. Gaughan will call Hanley's Sound Equipment Company in Medford to see if they could handle the job this year in the same price range as before. The committee will further investigate buying equipment after the April celebration figures are all in. It is important that the mike be adjustable. Otis Brown will be asked to supply large umbrellas for the Reviewing Stand. The stand will be fixed so that children will not sit on the rail. Mr. Gaughan presented the bill for typing the remaining minutes and it was approved. SPIRIT OF '76 Mr. Sperduto will get the drum to Mr. Maxner. Stephen Shaw's uniform will be enlarged by the High School sewing class. Mr. Maxner will take care of it. The committee voted to rent a wig for Mr. Maxner's uniform. Martin Gilman has the fife. SIGNS It was suggested that the High School Art Club could do these. They will supply the stock. These should be done promptly, and should be saved for other years.
