TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 5, 1964
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Beardsley, Mrs. Bayle,
Mr. Gaughan, Mr. Sperduto, Mr. DiGiammarine, Mr. Fenske and
Mr. Rudd
CORRESPONDENCE
Mrs. Cooper of the League of Women Voters notifies us that the League
will not be sponsoring foreign students this year.
An invitation has been sent to the Concord Minute Men.
Acceptance has been received from General Benjamin F Evans, his
wife and his aide, First Lt. David M. Ritchie
Governor Peabody's office will let us know later if he can make it.
Senator Kennedy cannot make it.
Senator Saltonstall will let us know later if he can come
It was decided by the committee that Mrs. Litchfield would invite
General Mc Gonigle and his wife, the invitation to be directed to
his home She will also invite Adjutant General Thomas J Donnelly,
Head of the National Guard; and her Majesty's Counsel General.
Mrs. Litchfield replied to a letter from Seymour Pearlman of the
travel department of the New York Times by sendineg him the program
of "They Nobly Dar'd." and last year's rosters.
GUESTS George Cooper, of the Boy Scouts, went over the role of the
Scouts in the morning parade. He was informed by Mr. Gaughan,
who presiaea at the mee ,ing, tnat we ao not encourage asking
outside groups to participate, because of the crowded
conditions on the Green.
We will send the eighteen copies of the Roster requested to Mr. Bruce
Mc Mahon.
A float application will be sent to Mr Cooper.
Mrs. Litchfield will contact the Girl Scouts and Mrs Beardsley; also
the other groups (youth).

Douglas Maxner discussed the role of the Spirit of '76. He felt it
should be part of the morning parade. He also stated that he felt
there was a serious lack of music in the morning parade, Mr. Rudd
suggested drum lines to give cadance. The Militia Men from
Bedford and the Hayden Fife and Drum Corps were suggested.
It was learned that Mr. Maxner had two uniforms and Mr. Sperduto
the third. It was decided that Mr. Sperduto and Mr Maxner would
get together to make an inventory of the uniforms and equipment.
Mr. Maxner suggested renting a wig which is missing. After some
discussion of the merits of buying versus renting wigs, it was
decided to defer decision and let Mr. Maxner know later.
Mr. Maxner said he will have the same fifer as last year, and
requested that he be given the drums to fix ropes.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
The reports were given with emphasis on what remained to be done,
rather than what had been done.
Mrs Beardsley stated that she was- requested to contact the
II Secretary of State's office in regard to the Proclamations. The
Proclamation will be on April 19th according to law. The Mayor's
office requested that we send in our complete program.
Mr. DeGiammarino reported that it did not seem likely that he
would find a photographer at the High School. It was suggested that
we -contact the Arts and Crafts Society. Mrs. Litchfield will call
Mr. Louis Reynolds and let Mr. DiGiammarino know the result.
A price of $260.00 was obtained to buy sound equipment; list price
was $3115.00. It was suggested that a check be made with the
Executive Secretary of the Selectmen to see if it is available on
surplus lists.
Mr. Rudd reported that all float applications have been sent out
1 with the exception of Flippo, and four acceptances were received from
the Elks, Countryside Bible Chapel, Christian High School and
Countryside Bible Chapel.
Dr. Clifford Hunt was contacted and said that the Antique Cars will
participate.
Mr. Sperduto reported that Anthony's price of spaghetti without
meatballs would be $1.20, not including tax; the same as beef stew
If there were meatballs with the spaghetti, the price would be the
same as that quoted for meatloaf, $1.50 including tax. It was
suggested that we might consider having the lunch catered if we had
to feed enough people.

Mr. Fenske will contact the High School Art Club about doing the
car signs.
Mr. Gaughan has not yet received a price from any of the contractors.
he contacted about covering the stands with masonite. He
estimated that we could get the job done for about $85.00. He will
also contact the Cannie Corp in Concord.
Mrs. Litchfield will check again on Norwich to find out whether we
have to give them lunch this year. She will also contact the Coast
Guard whose application forms have not yet come back.
There was some discussion as to whether the Commanding Officer of
the new National Guard Unit in Lexington should be invited to the
luncheon. Decision was deferred.
Mrs. Bayle will check on the maps for the Historical Guides.
