TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 6, 1964
PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Beardsley, Mr. Sperduto,
Mr. Gaughan, Mr. DiGiammarino, Mr. Fenske, Mr. Rudd and
Mrs. Bayle
The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as written.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter from the Falmouth Band stating that they would like to
participate on April 20th and requesting information as to whether
funds were available to defray transportation costs. After dis—
cussion, it was agreed that Mr. Rudd would contact Mr. Tarbox to
see if transportation could be worked out without cost to the
Committee. He will report next week.
Lexington Assembly Order of Rainbow will march in the morning and
the afternoon parades.
Battlegreen Order of DeMolay will march in the morning parade. They
will have a ColoreGuard and the convertible in the afternoon parade.
COMMITTEE PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr. Rudd. He has talked to the dealers about the convertibles. A
traffic plan was worked out so that traffic could flow
during the parade, except for a short shut—down on the
parade route at the Maple Street intersection. The route
will be marked out on a map and he and Mr. Barnes will
see the Chief of Police together.
Mr. Sperduto He called Pat Fox on the Spirit of '76 and was told
to contact Doug Maxner He gets the ether two members.
Martin Gilman is supposed to have the fife. Mr. Barnes
has the drums. Mr. Sperduto will follow up en the
uniforms and fife.
Mrs. Beardsley She has contacted the Mayor's office about the
Proclamation. She will request a copy of the Governors'
Proclamation from his office. She will publicize the
Shuttle Bus Service.
Mrs. Litchfield. She will write the Four H Team and invite them for
the morning parade. She will write to the Arlington Band
and tell them that we will pay for transportation and
$50.00 for the Band Fund. She will arrange for the
Shuttle Bus. She will pick up a half dozen maps of
Lexington.
Mr. DiGiammarino He has arranged for wash rooms at the Adams School.
He is looking for an offical photographer at the High School.

Mr. Fenske Be has talked to the Chairman of the Music Department and
they will have the same program as last year. Frank
handled the P. A. System last year. He has made
arrangements at the Belfrey Club and with the bartenders.
Be will contact Mrs. Moyle. The Rotary Club Ball will
be the evening of the 18th. Be cannot go further with
the signs until he knows the names of the guests.
Mr. Gaughan: The Lions will go ahead with the Road Race and the
White Tricorn Hat.
Mrs. Bayle The luncheon menu and diningroom along with the additional
room for the ladies have been reserved for the 20th at the
Battlegreen Inn. The Guides have their maps which were
left over from last year.
Mr. Barnes The Chief Marshal will be Kingston L. Howard.
GUEST REPORTS
Mr. John West of the J.C's stated that they will have a float for which
they will take care of the publicity. They will also have a booth for
hot dogs and balloons. Jim Fenske suggested that they try to revive the
custom of decorating houses along the parade route. It was suggested
that this might be confined to the Historic District.
Mrs. Sidney Cooper of the League of Women Voters stated that the League
has not had a Beard meeting as yet. She will let us know what the
League will do. It is not probable that they will have a float, but they
might have their "duck" in the parade.
Mr. James O'Connell of the Lexington Lodge of Elks said that they will
march in the parade and hope to have Ted Kennedy march with them. They
hope to have the parade televized on WBZ. They will probably have a float.
Mr. Neil Cronin of the Chamber of Commerce said that the Chamber agreed
that it was a good idea to judge the floats in East Lexington, but they
would announce the winners from the reviewing stand.
OTHER BUSINESS
Our next meeting will take place in the Town Accountants Office. The
meeting for the 27th has been re—scheduled for the 26th. We are working
on re—scheduling the meeting set for the 20th to the 19th.
