HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-01-23-TCC-min.pdf 79 f TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 23, 196b PRESENT Chairman Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mr. Rudd, Mr. Gaughan, Mrs. Bayle, Mrs. Beardsley and Mr. Fenske (later) VISITORS Mrs. LaPorte, Girl Scouts; Mr. Munroe, Boy Scouts; Representatives from Promenaders and Historical Guides APRIL 19th: Mr. Barnes briefed the visitors from the youth groups on the plans for the two-day April 19th celebration, gave them the parade theme, and asked for suggestions from their groups. The Boy Scouts will take part in the morning parade, and the Fiske Hill celebration with Concord. They will add some drummers to add to the morning parade. The Historic Guides agree to do tours Sunday afternoon and Monday. They will rent uniforms as last year, and give out the maps as last year, which we will supply. The Girl Scouts' participation will be the same as in other years. Mrs. LaPorte was asked to request that there be no traffic cutting in on their units this year as last year. The question of a float for the Girl Scouts is still to be decided. The Promenanders would like to have their Miss Lexington float lead the parade again, although this eliminates them from the float competition. If Hayden is not having a dance this year, they would like to have one that would be open to the young people of the town. Mrs. Litchfield will call the youth groups, including Hayden, to check on_their_plans.- - — - The minutes of January 9th and 16th were approved. CORRESPONDENCE The whole Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps Declines The Bagpipes of the Drum & Bugle Corps Accepts Reading High School Band & Baton Squad Maynard High School Band " Mrs. Litchfield will invite the following marching units: Baptist Youth, DeMolay, CYO, Christian Endeavor, Rainbow, and Elks. She will also invite the Clan MacPherson Kiltie Band, Grotto Oriental Band, and Bedford Militiamen Drum and Bugle Corps. 80 FLOATS Mr. Rudd will call last year's float participants and invite them to enter this year's contest and parade, giving them the theme "Profiles of Courage " He will also get rules and applications from the Chamber of Commerce for mimeographing, and settle the details for judging, etc. with them. LUNCHEON Mrs. Bayle has contacted the Battle Green Inn, and they have agreed to screen our group from the rest of the dining room this year, giving us the entire window wall, with space for 80 diners. The committee voted for London Broil Steak at $2.50, including tax and tip, and the luncheon to be held at 12 noon at the Battle Green Inn. Luncheon favors will be decided next week. Mr. Barnes asked Mr. Gaughan to see that the reviewing stand is fixed so that children cannot be put on the rail. Mr. Gaughan will get prices for a cover for the floor of the stand to protect it. Mr. Penske has made a firm commitment with the Old Belfry Club for the reception. He will have them hire a bartender, and he will contact Mrs. Moyle for the catering and flowers. We will give her an exact number of people to serve the week before. PUBLICITY Mrs. Beardsley will send in a release to the Minute Man this week, with plans as made for the parade. Mr. Barnes will give her a publicity schedule to follow each week until the parade. Mr Barnes, as chairman, will choose the Chief Marshal.
