Mr. Barnes asked each of the visitors to give their suggestions for improving the 19th of April parade. Mr. Broderick That there be one division for floats, that they be integrated into the parade better, and that there be a float chairman on the committee to work with them. Mr. Cronin: There should be new application forms for floats, and they should be filled out in triplicate; one for the Chamber of Commerce, one for the organization, and one for this committee; and that there be three different colors of applications so that the judges can instantly tell the class of each float. It is also vital that each organization list on the application the person the Celebrations Committee is to deal with. After considerable discussion on the judging of floats, Mr. Barnes said the final decision was up to the Chamber of Commerce, but it was the feeling of those present that the judging would best be done around 11 a.m., setting a deadline for finishing and positioning the floats, and while they are fresh. Mr. Lewis felt that there must be a good parade briefing and everyone must keep to it. He mentioned a motorcycle aide for the Chief Marshal to keep in touch with the entire parade, but Mr. Bongiorno thought it could be better done with Walkee—Talkees for all division marshals. It was also suggested that five huge signs be printed with division number and units listed and properly placed, so units can find their positions easily. Then there should be another huge sign in front of McGee's reading "Chief Marahai'—togive—instructions as people enter the town. Ani there could be three more signs for the Transportation Area. The signs should be of permanent construction for further use. Mr. Bongiorno felt a band should always be placed behind a division marshal and his aides. Mr. Lewis asked for more music at the early morning parade, and that the Public Works place the rostrum at the Green correctly. Mr. Broderick said that Concord has a new Fife and Drum Corps. It was suggested that the program of school children singing Colonial songs on the Green be 'repeated — it helps build up spirit beforehand. CORRESPONDENCE Northeastern ROTC Band has accepted, and their Persian Rifles have declined. Mr. Barnes read two letters from the Selectmen. One asked this Committee to add Veterans Day and Memorial Day to our Celebrations, and the other stated the Selectmen have added $300.00 for Veterans Day and $500.00 for Memorial Day to our budget. i 78 PARADE THEME After discussion, it was voted that the theme of the 19611 parade will be "Profiles of Courage".
