HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-10-17-TCC-min.pdf 67 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE r- October 17, 1963 Present at the fifth meeting of the 1963-64- Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Beardsley, Mrs Bayle and Messrs DiGiammarino, Rudd , Barnes and Sperduto. Mrs Doris Pullen and Selectman Lincoln Cole were guests Mrs Litchfield read a letter from Mr Spirts, CORRESPOND- acting Superintendent of Schools, thanking us for the ENCS invitation to the Tree Planting He will attend or send a representative No word from Mr Fisher of the Latter Day Saints church so Mrs Litchfield called Mrs Fisher who is checking on it After last meeting Mrs Litchfield checked her supplies, and will order the letterheads as per our last meeting, but found she is well stocked in envelopes Mildred Whitney was apparently never paid for her typing the 250th reports according to Charles Parks As this committee had never received a bill for this work, Mrs Litchfield is requesting one so it can be voted and paid There is no change in the Treasurer ' s report Mr DiGiammarino passed out the plans for the UN DAY high school essay assembly One change was made at his suggestion, that the winners be announced by Rotary rather than our chairman, to make the ceremony flow easier The agenda for the Tree Planting at Hancock School was also given out The pine tree will be planted at the hate of -bite 13111 Selectman Cole will greet Dick Michelson of the JC, who will in turn make a few remarks The plaque will be placed later by the Park Dept The committee reviewed the Flag Raising Order of the Day Mr Rudd said it would be a regular formal guard mount Mr Sperduto will take Polaroid pictures, as well as Kodacolor, if the weather permits Mr DiGiammarino said the School Department is checking on their UN flags Miss McIntyre has given Mr DiGiammarino some of her bills for expenses for the Essay Contest, but they are not all in yet It will amount to about 350 68 APRIL 19 Doris Pullen of the First Performance Company, producers of last year' s pageant, "They Nobly Dar° " p ' came to the committee to ask if we would consider sponsoring the show once again for 2 performances this April There would be no financial or other responsi- bility for the committee It would be mostly a matter of shared publicity with our other programs There has been a general demand that the show be done again, and Mrs Pullen told. of a citation the First Performance Co received at the N E. Theater Conference this fall for their work They would like to have the committee ' s answer after our October 31 meeting After Mrs Pullen left, the committee voted to notify the First Performance Co that they might pro- duce the pageant again, and Mrs Litchfield will notify them Mrs Litchfield said the Fitchburg Band trans- portation bill has never been received She will write and ask for it before January 1 Selectman Cole came in to the committee at the end of the meeting to discuss Veterans Day, November 11, and Memorial Day, May 30, both of which celebrations have been handled by a special Veterans Committee He wondered how the Town Celebrations Committee felt about taking them on Mr Barnes felt they properly belonged under this committee' s jurisdiction Mrs Bayle sug- gested that Mr Healy, who had b en the prime person organizing these celebrations, be added to this com- mittee and continue to oversee them, and that we begin with the next Memorial Day celebration The next meeting will be October 31 in the Town Accountant ' s Office Respectfully submitted, Audrey E Beardsley, Recording Secretary
