TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE

Present at the fourth meeting of the 1963-64
Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs.
Bayle, Mrs Beardsley and Messrs DiGiammarino, Rudd,
Gaua'han, Fenske, Barnes and Sperduto Mr Lincoln P
Cole, Chairman of the Selectmen, was a guest
Mrs Litchfield read a letter from the Lynn APRIL 19
Village Drum Band accenting our invitation to perform
April 19 and 20, with arrangements to be made later
Don Cobb called. Mrs Litchfield to say the
Washington Lodge wants to have a float
Mrs. Litchfield talked to Bert Gustin about
ordering the plaques, and was given permission by the
committee to order 4 even if the previous price of $15
each is too low, and the plaques have gone up
There is no change in the Treasurer' s report .
It Was voted to give Mrs. Litchfield '50. in petty cash
Each member of the committee was given a dia- UN DAY
gram for participants and the order of the day for the
, Flag Raising Ceremony
Mr. DiGiammarino said the high school assembly
will be at 12 :35 They are taking care of inviting all
officials.
The Tree Planting will take place at 11 at Han-
cock School Mrs Litchfield will invite the Board of
Selectmen Mr William Roger Greeley the Town Celebra-
tion Committee: the President of the JC: and the interim
au-pe-tintend-en-t- of schools, MT Sp-iris.
Mr Fisher of the Latter Day Saints Church has
not yet replied to our invitation Mrs Litchfield will
call if she does not hear promptly
Mr Sperduto contacted Mr Bix Shoemaker, Presi-
dent of Rotary, and they are all set to award the Essay
prizes
Mrs Litchfield will send invitations to the
Board of Selectmen, the Lions Club, the Minute Men, and
Col Passales of the 32d Rkt . Btn of the National Guard.
Mr Fenske suggested that invitations be sent as well to
all the service organizations on our list with the excep-
tion of the American Legion and the VFW, who are taking F
part in the ceremony

Mr Rudd reported that he has 6 stores lined up
for UN displays Mrs Beardsley said the League of n,
Women Voters will have women delivering posters on Mon-
day, October 21, to town merchants
Mrs Beardsley will tend to the publicity and
pictures for the B events There is no information on
the flags for the Lions Club as yet
Mr Barnes said he had had no reply from the
PTA Council on the UNICEF, and that it lookeddoubtful
for the Halloween plan this year
Mr DiGiammarino called the committee ' s at-
tention to the 1st Cary Lecture which is to be the
United Nations singers
Mr Barnes announced. the formation of the
National Guard liaison committee, consisting of Mr.
Cole, Mr Adams, Father Fitzpatrick, John Ward of the
Minute Men and himself The National Guard, 2d Rocket
Battalion, is planning' to dedicate the new armory on
April 20 with a ball and open house The Town Celebra-
tions Committee has been asked to help them with their
plans in every way possible
Mr Barnes was asked if he had a ruling: on the
excess funds Mr Cole felt there is no need to be con-
cerned about the 1Q75 celebration as the Leroy S Brown
Fund will have accumulated quite a sum by then How-
ever, with this large balance it seems wise to stock up
• on needed items Mrs Litchfield was given permission
to order 1000 letterheads, envelopes, and other neces-
sary office supplies
A Polaroid camera for the committee was men-
tioned Mr Cole said the Building Inspector has an
official camera he thought we could use
After some discussion it was decided the 250th
plates would still be appropriate as gifts through 1964.
Mr DiGiammarino suggested that one be riven to Miss
McIntire for all that she had riven to the town. The
Chairman felt that with a limited number of 246 plates
and 19 ashtrays, that we must consider very narefully
to whom and for what reason these are to be given away,
that we do not start a precedent we cannot follow
The meeting was adjourned The next meeting,
Oct 17, will be in the Town Accountant ' s office , up-
stairs from the Selectmen' s office.
