HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-10-03-TCC-min.pdf 61 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE October 3, 1963 Present at the third meeting of the 1963-64 Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Beardsley, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs Bayle and Messrs Penske, Barnes, DiGiammarino, Rudd and Sperduto Guests included Mrs J Alan Cooper, League of Women Voters Mr Wm P Brenchik, Jr , Marine Corps League; Mr Richard Michelson, Jr Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce ; Mr John Ward, Minute Men Mr George Medeiros of the Lions Mrs Litchfield. has not yet had answers from CORRESPOND- either the Lynn Village Drum Band or Bert Gustin in ENCE regard to the plaques we are ordering It was voted to send Mr Eric Handley, the of- ficial photographer for the 19th of April, a commemora- tive plate as a thank you for all his work There ' s no change in the treasurer' s report Mr DiGiammarino announced the essay contest ESSAY is proceeding on schedule, and that the assembly is CONTEST not set up as yet Miss McIntire expects between 40 and 6n students may be writing Mr DiGiammarino has talked with Hancock School TREE and the ceremony is tentatively scheduled. for 11 a m PLANTING Mr Barnes says there is no answer yet from the UNICEF PTA Council Mr Barnes then turned the meeting over to Mr UN DAY DiGiammarino as chairman 6fUNDay Each participating group will be given a program plan by Jack Rudd . Marine Corps League : Mr Brenchik will work with Mr Rudd The setup will be the same as last year Each organization will have its own color guard of 3 men The American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Minute Men Mr Brenchik will check with Mr Mazerall to see that the flag pole is properly prepared for the UN Flag. Junior Chamber of Commerce: Mr Michelson will represent the JC at the ceremony as last year The JC' s donate the tree for the tree plant- ing ceremony at Hancock Mr Mazerall is taking care of the tree 62 Lions: Mr Medeiros reported that the flag is all taken care `7 of He will be at the Green and will bring the flag He said that 17 or 18 flags have been given and the Lions would like to know how many more there is room for Frank will check the School Administration Build- ' ing and find out if all the schools still have their flags If so, next Cary Library will be contacted and then the Town Hall Chamber of Commerce : Mr Rudd will work with Mr Michelson and work out } details of the retail merchantso displays of UN materials Mr Rudd suggested that 6 stores in the town, 3 in the center, I in N Lexington, 1 at Country- side, and 1 at Marrett Rd and Waltham St , carry major displays with additional materials from the World Af- fairs Council that Mrs Beardsley will order Then on the Monday preceding UN Day some members of the League of Women Voters and Mrs Beardsley will deliver UN posters to other stores for display League of Women Voters Mrs Cooper stated that 4 of the judges of the Essay Contest had been chosen, and that 2 more will be shortly She questioned how much time the judged could, have and was told that the day before would be the deadline Minute Men Capt Ward said that their Color Guard will be on hand for the Green Ceremony The ceremony will be short. People should be there at least by 5 of 7 and Sgt. Lawrence E. Stone will play the bugle Rotary: Mr DiGiammarino will check with them Mrs Beardsley was asked that the Adams Press be contacted to take pictures of all 3 ceremonies, as well as doing the rest of the publicity Mrs Litchfield will invite guests to the Battle Green Ceremony and the Tree Planting Ceremony, but the high school will invite their own guests to the assembly program Mr Greely will be included in the list of in- vitations Mr DiGiammarino will have the diagram for the Green and the complete program next meeting so that the invitations can go out 1 63 After some discussion as to the proper order to invite the church, it was voted to use the same list , in the same order, as at April 19, which will make the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints next on the list, and. if they refuse, Sacred Heart will be invited. At the close of the meeting, Mr Barnes reminded the Committee that in 12 years the Town will be celebra- ting the 200th Anniversary of the Battle, and that it seems too bad the excess funds from this year can' t be put aside in some way, and he asked permission from the members to see what he could work out Although it seemed doubtful the Committee agreed it should be tried.
