HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-09-19-TCC-min.pdf 57 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 19, 1963 Present at the first meeting of the 1963-64 Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Beardsley and Messrs Sperduto, Barnes, DiGiammarino and Gaughan Mrs Litchfield reported that the Town Cele- CORRESPOND- brations Committee has a balance of 4661 49 left in ENCE the account, and that the 250th Anniversary Committee had 42228 45 Any funds remaining: in December are turned in to the Excess and Deficiency Funds of the town Our hooks are in accord with the Town Accountant A letter was read from Georgia Williams thanking the Committee for the commemorative plate given her for all the lettering she has done There are still some plates and ashtrays re- maining but the Selectmen' s office has not yet made a decision as to their disposal Mr Barnes, the new Chairman, briefed the 2 new members on the work and history of the Town Celebrations Committee Mrs Beardsleyuas asked to do the publicity for the moment and Mr Sperduto to assist Mr DiGiam- marino with t e U N. Day The Lynn Village Drum Band has said they would APRIL 19 like to come next year. As this is an outstanding group, Mrs Litchfield will write them inviting them for both a concert on the Green Sunday afternoon, and the parade Monday afternoon Although they perform for free, there will be a transportation fee which will be discussed later Mr DiGiammarino reported that the essay contest UN DAY was getting underway at the high school and that he was contacting the assembly committee in regard. to the pro- gram for October 24 Mrs Litchfield is inviting the organizations to attend a meeting with this committee on Oct 3 She stated that the budget allotment for this day was usually 3100 and that last year 488.04 was expended The PTA Council is being contacted in regard to sponsoring a UNICEF Halloween collection throughout the schools If they turn it down we will try to work through the individual PTA' s 58 Mrs Beardsley will get publicity material from the World Affairs Council in Boston, and will contact ' Mr Kolovson of the Chamber of Commerce to see how much assistance that organization is willing to give for the UN Day Mr Goodrich of Hancock School has not yet replied to the committee in regard to that school hav- ing the Tree Planting Ceremony Mr DiGiammarino will call him again The proclamations for UN Day were discussed, but it was decided they had never been used in the past There was a discussion of UN flags for the Battle Green ceremonies The Lions will he approached about another flag around the Green, but only if there is room, as the Selectmen have requested that they not be spread out through the town Respectfully submitted, Audrey E Beardsley, Recording Secretary, pro tem
