HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-05-09-TCC-min.pdf 51 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE May 9, 1963 Present at the twenty-fifth meeting of the 1962-63 Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Bayle, and Messrs Barnes, Howard, DiGiammarino, Gilman and Gaughan The following letters were received commenting CORRESPOND- on the April 19 weekend: ENCE President Kennedy to Mr Howard Gen Glasser to Elinor Litchfield and Mr. Howard DeLesseps S Morrison to Mr Howard William Welsh Marion T Hopkins suggesting an extra loudspeaker beamed toward Buckman Tavern The Board of Selectmen notified the committee that the following were appointed to the Committee for 3 year terms: Elinor Litchfield, Anthony Sperudato, and Audrey E Beardsley. A letter was received from the National Presi- dent of the Committee for the United. Nations which was turned over to Mr DiGiammarino Mrs Litchfield will check on all those who wish to go to a testimonial for. Alan Adams on June 12. APRIL 19, 1964 Pat Fox reported that in 1936 April 19 fell on a Sunday and was celebrated on Monday It was re- - ported that Mr Bartlett and Mr Hanley were against the idea of celebrating on Sunday It was suggested that perhaps we would consider having the afternoon parade on Sunday and the morning parade on Monday The clergy will be sounded out further and we will try to arrive at a decision at next meeting which will be held May 23 in the Town Accountants Office Dr MacDonald of Concord informed us that Con- cord had voted to hold their Parade on Sunday morning, but there was a possibility that this vote would be re- considered He personally would prefer that Lexington celebrate on Sunday and was pleased to hear that we had not finally decided against a Sunday Parade - UN DAY It was decided to adopt the suggestion of Mrs. Fox and Make UNICEF the special project for this UN Day which falls on October 24 Samples of the material available will be ob- tained from the World Affairs Council on Newbury St Mrs Litchfield will write a letter to the Han- cock School informing_ them that the are next in line for a tree Mrs Litchfield will write to Dick Michelson of J.C. ' s to make sure they will continue to donate the tree Mrs Litchfield will notify all the organizations 1 on the check list prepared by Ray Barnes to be present at our June 6 meeting 53 Also representatives of the League of Women Voters and the Unitarian and Baptist churches will be contacted by Pat Fox to come in connection with the UNICEF plan and Mr DiGiammarino will invite a repre- sentative of the PTA Council and the Franklin School PTA.
