TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 28, 1963
Present at the twentieth meeting of the 1962-63
Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Fox, Mrs. Bayle,
Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Howard, Barnes, Gilman,
Gaughan and DiGiammarino
Letter from the Coast Guard advising that the CORRESPOND-
Coast Guard Academy Band is not generally sent out of ENCE
their area but that they will send a marching unit
The 1st Naval District advised that they will
send a marching unit from the USS Yosemite
We were informed that the USS Lexington is in
Pensacola, Fla , It was agreed that we would write to
the USS Lexington extending greetings
In response to a request, Pat Fox will send to
the librarian of the Horace Mann School for the Deaf
material on April 19
The Salvation Army advised that they do not
have a suitable unit for parade
The amount available for emergency use of the FINANCE
Committee in the Leroy S Brown Fund is $1191.80
After comparing figures supplied by Mrs Litchfield on
expenditures for April 19, 1962, it was decided that
the Committee could expend between $200 and $900. for '
bands in addition to those already committed
The morning roster was put in final form and is APRIL 19
to be printed by the high school (2.50 copies) PARADE
Mr Broderick decided on the make up of the
divisions and units as well as the aides for the after-
noon parade On the basis of his request for addi-
tional units it was decided to issue the following in-
vitations :
We will advise the Holy Name Band and the St Vincent
J. J' s that we would like to have them participate on
the basis that we will absorb their transportation ex-
pense to the maximum or $70 each
We will assume transportation for the Westford Academy
band which we estimate to be about $30
The Saugus High Band will be invited, and we will pay
$50. for transportation
The Medfield Drill Team will be invited, and we will
pay $50 for transportation
Positions for the floats were drawn from the hat
GUESTS Mr William H. Myles, Town Chairman of 4-H, of
46 Baskin Rd. They will have a marching unit in the
morning parade and were advised that it would have the
same position as last year Deborah Bean will recite
1 the 4-H pledge and Mr Stanwood Ayer will be the
Sponsor We will send a roster to Mr Myles
Mr Green of the American Legion said the Legion
will sponsor a float with the Boston Patriot ' s He was
given a float application
250TH Musical Drama - Parking problems were discussed with
ANNIVERSARY Chief Rycroft CrittendenLeague will be in charge of
SUBCOMMITTEE the sale of refreshments Mr Ray Lewis is business
manager A report of ticket sales was given
Commemorative Plates - A reorder has been placed for
250 plates and 500 ash trays
Exposition - Although they did not have the response
they hoped to have, it is going well The Arts and
Crafts Society and the Historical Society have been
contacted about space
The Committee has been trying to solve the problem of
the conflict between the telecast of Lexington and
Concord and the Historical Society Lecture Perhaps
they can be integrated
Athletic Events - It has been decided to give a cita-
tion to every participant Mr Perks was requested to
submit a detailed report in writing on this project to
the TCC by April 4
Youth Dance - Admission will be M. 00 The committee
will be invited.
Diorama - The Chamber of Commerce is now negotiating
to have the Diorama at the High School Exposition
Storage of Scenery and Flats of "They Nobly Dar'd" -
It was suggested by Mr Howard that Ray Lewis contact
the Town Counsel and the Board of Selectmen to see what
is involved in having the Town own this property It
was further suggested that the best arrangements for
preserving the costumes be decided upon It was felt

that permanent arrangements for the properties and
costumes should be settled before the final performance
on April 20 A sixteen page program_ including the
schedule of the Town Celebrations will be distributed
free They have ordered 2500 copies at a cost of $360
