HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-03-21-TCC-min.pdf 27 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 21, 1963 Present at the Nineteenth meeting of the 1962-63 Town Celebrations committee were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Fox and Messrs Howard, Gilman, Rudd , Barnes, Gaughan (for a few minutes) , DiGiammarino and Broderick, Chief Marshal. Guests were Mrs Van Schuyver, Grace Chapel; Mr Bashian and Mrs Touart for a few minutes Mr Howard , Mr Broderick and Chief Rycroft had a special meeting before the committee on parade matters Maj Gen Terhune will attend CORRESPOND- Northeastern ROTC Band is available ENCE Sixth Mass Continentals confirmed. Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Neil Harlan, will attend. The Air Force will provide transportation for the Ambassadors and their wives Leeds Drum Corps would like to participate A telegram has been sent to Pres Kennedy asking him to attend the Latin-American dinner Col Braid of Watertown Arsenal sent his regrets The Salvation Army Band will not be able to participate r Theatre Party, April 17 : Committee members were asked to bring 0 to next meeting April 19 Check List : Mr Gaughan had to leave, and reported that his check list duties were completed or in progress Mr Bashian reported on a unit from Worcester MARCHING County, the 9th Mass Battery who wear civil war uni- UNIT forms An invitation will be extended to them Grace Chapel Participation: Mr Howard explained the order of the a m parade He previously had explained privately to Mrs Ritchie why church groups will not give promises on Green Mrs. Fox will attend the Prom-Manaders Birthday PUBLICITY Ball for information on the new Queen and to take pic- tures for. the Minute-Man. Mrs Fox has arranged with Mrs Lowenschuss and Mr Woodward of the School Department on the Patriots' Day program and 250th Anniversary program to be distri- buted as part of the PTA Bulletin, April issue We will have to arrange to do the stapling i 1 28 A press release on Patriots' Day has been sent to Mrs Touart along with the program for the day for distribution to news outlets The copy used was the work of Mrs Pullen Mrs Fox is planning a window in the laundro- mat of past pictures of Patriots ' Day activities Mr Rudd will conduct the meeting of the Retail Division of the Chamber of Commerce and bring up the matter of window displays in April AFTERNOON Mr Howard reported on his conversation with PARADE Mr Welsh Mr Welsh wants the ambassadors in the parade, aid this is in keeping with protocol A dis- cussion followed on perhaps having an automobile cara- van precede the parade by 5 minutes The majority of the committee objected, and the decision was in the negative Mr Howard reported that Temple Aleppo (Shriners) have a marching band, drill team, Oriental Band, a singing unit, staff and jeep-drawn bean pot, which we can have for the cost of transportation The George Washington Lodge will have a float, and asked to have it behind Shrine unit There followed a discussion of float positions whether they should be between divisions or with units Mr Rudd will contact organizations and find out their preference CHIEF Mr Broderick reported on the meeting with Chief MARSHAL Rycroft The E Lexington Rotary will be closed at 1 :15 Worthen Rd . south of Mass Ave , will be the dispersal J area At 1 :30 access to the town will be cut off The floats probably will be judged on Worthen Rd because of the number of cars around the Green CD There will be mobile and fixed units at points COMMUNICA- on the parade route Check points will become mobile TIONS and join parade at intervals We would like Scouts as runners for the aides and marshals Mrs Litchfield reported that Bruce McMahon is Executive Director for the Scouts in this area Westford Academy has requested to be in the parade Fire engines are to be restricted to twelve L_ 09 Mr Gilman reported that it would cost $35 to "SPIRIT OF repair the drums in Mr Maxner' s possession If he '76" would place them in the custody of the committee, we would agree to this repair. Committee members will check on other drums. as we cannot pay for repair of private property. We can recondition drums that are town property, and which would be in our jurisdiction year around Mr Barnes said the price for car signs, tickets, CHECK etc. would come to between 5100-$150 Mr. Howard will LIST check with Star Market on these On March 28 the rosters for both parades will be planned.
