TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 21, 1963
The sixteenth meeting of the 1962-63 Town Cele-
brations Committee was held and present were Mrs Fox,
Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Howard, Gaughan, Barnes and
Rudd Absent were Mrs Bayle, Mr DiGiammarino and Mr
Gilman Guests were Mr Broderick, Chief Marshal Mr
Steve Heinrick and Mr Bud Palcione from the high school
Student Government Day:
Students from the High School came to the meeting in
order to make tape recordings of the proceedings of the
Celebrations Committee Committee members made brief
replies to questions from the students
Mrs Litchfield reported she has a refusal from CORRESPOND-
Sen Kennedy to attend the celebration, and a "maybe" ENCE
from Sen Saltonstal Maj Gen Donnelly cannot come
Col Wilcox and Col Alexander from Hanscom Field will
attend From the Naval District, Rear Adm Wellings
and his wife and aide will attend The Woburn High
School Band has accepted
Review of Celebrations Committee Origins and Functions :
Mr Howard made a presentation on this subject for the
students
Mr Broderick was asked to outline his duties CHIEF
The Chief Marshal is appointed by the Chairman of the MARSHAL
Committee, and leads the afternoon parade He appoints
aides from veterans and military organizations to help
organize and coordinate the parade He maintains a
headquarters in E Lexington before the parade to supply
information to narticinatinv units When the nareae
reaches the reviewing stand , the Marshal joins the guests
of the town to review the parade Meetings of the mar-
shals and aides are held in advance, and the Chief Mar-
shal is responsible for drawing up the roster
A brief resume of publicity for this committee, PUBLICITY
and the publicity organization of the 250th committee
was made
Committee Responsibilities :
Mr Howard concluded the taped interview by pointing
out that this committee is totally dependent on the
cooperation of every department in town government and
on community leaders and organizations without whose
help we could not operate successfully

PUBLICITY Mrs Fox reported she had talked to Mr Nyren
in regard to the preservation of our films Mr Nyren
sail it would cost 3300 to preserve them, and suggested
that we have a very strict system for borrowing them in-
stead Mr Rudd suggested we have them copied in 8mm to
lend out Mr Howard suggested films should be edited
every 5 years, and the best part of them could be re-
produced Final decision will be made when the complete
cost of reproduction is known
Mrs Fox said the Library will be delighted to
have the UN flag made by the Grange Mr Gilman has the
stand and staff.
Next week we will have a story on our Chief Mar-
shal, Mr Broderick.
CHECK Members went over the check list for the parade,
LIST highlights are as follows !
Mr Rudd reported that the Tewksbury Air Patrol is
interested in coming as a marching unit
Mr Gaughan reported that Execuphone will cover PATRIOT'S
DAY He reported that it was prohibitive to rent a cano-
py for the stand, and the Lions will keep in touch with
him regarding the Road Race and White Tricorn Hat award
Mr Howard received a letter from the Holy Name CYO,
West Roxbury, which brought up a discussion of our lack
of marching units Mr Broderick will try to get more,
and Mrs Litchfield suggested we wait for a week or so
to see what acceptances we get before making any commit-
ment
1 Mr Howard asked Mrs Litchfield to itemize the cost of
all bands from whom we have received either acceptances
or no responses as a basis of comparison with last year's
total band expense
Mr Gaughan reported he has 17 definite commitments for
floats.
A meeting of marshals and aides will be held the Sunday
before the 19th
250TH The dinner before the drama on April 17 will
ANNIVERSARY be confined to committee members and staff, the only
exception being house guests.

There will be no meeting February 28 as that is FUTURE
Candidates Night The following Thursday we will meet MTG.
with the 250th Committee at the Battle Green Inn,
