TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 14, 1963
Present at the fifteenth meeting of the 1962-63
Town Celebrations Committee were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs
Fox, Mrs Bayle, and Messrs Howard, Gilman, Gaughan,
Rudd and DiGiammarino Mr Barnes was absent Guests
included Messrs Ben Nickerson, Dasnery and Cole
The minutes of February 7, 1963 were approved
as submitted
The following correspondence was received. and CORRESPOND-
read by Mrs Litchfield: ENCE
Mrs Edith Pederson - The Lexington Policewomen will
march
Mrs McGee - The Dedham Drum and Bugle Corp are
interested in attending
St Anthony's Drill Team has accepted for the usual
donation
Lynn Village Drum Band - sent regrets Hope to be in-
vited next year
Christian High School of Cambridge - would like to
enter a float This was re-
ferred to Jack Rudd
Fort Devens - Gera. & Mrs Verbeck will be unable to at-
tend due to illness Mrs Litchfield will
extend the invitation to the next in com-
mand.
Norwich University - Mrs Litchfield will find out how
many will be coming Since they will be
in Arlington in the morning, Mr Howard
will contact Arlington about sharing the
expense
bars Nickerson of the Baptist south Group is to be in-
formed that there is no committee require-
ment that the participants must earn every
cent for their float
Brad Morse - will attend luncheon, if possible, but his
wife will not be with him
Letter from the secretary of the Sixth Continentals -
hope to come this year Mrs Litchfield
will write to them regarding reimbursement
John Clark - Mr Gilman will write to him and refer his
request to Douglas Maxner
On the question of the cleaning of the costumes,
the Committee agreed that we should keep them in our own
files together with the fife which belongs to us and we
will see about the cleaning ourselves
Director of Mass Agricultural Fairs Assoc letter to
Mr Howard - after discussion, agreed to send them a
float application
Mrs Litchfield was requested to order 2000
envelopes
Mr DiGiammarino reported on a letter from Eric
Hanley setting forth the prices for 8 mm vs 16 mm film
It was agreed by the Committee, after discussion, to
try 8 mm film this year
After a discussion about treating film to pre-
serve it, it was agreed that Mrs Fox would talk to Mr
Myren further about this matter as well as about the
flagpole

REPORT
The article has not yet appeared in t'he Minute
PUBLICITY
REPORT Man It was suggested that we would get some publicity
on the appointment of the Parade Marshal and possibly
on the invitation to President Kennedy which has gone
out
Rabbi Rosenbloom' s Proposal :
After discussion of 2 proposals made by Rabbi Rosen-
bloom to have the Jewish Community participate in the
250th Celebration, the committee agreed that the pro-
posal that a tree from Israel be presented to the Town
by the Sovereign state of Isreal commemorating the 250th
anniversary of the Town and the 15th anniversary of the
State of Israel would be acceptable Since the timing
of the presentation will probably fall within the juris-
diction of the subcommittee, and the location of the
tree in the jurisdiction of the Selectmen, Mr Howard
will write to both
Student Government Day Participation:
In connection with Student Government- Day in Lexington,
for his project, a Lexington High School student will
take a tape recording of the Committee meeting next week
He will submit written questions
Review of Meeting Schedule:
It was agreed that if the Subcommittee finished their
work earlier than the date for our last meeting, the
date would be moved up

Review of Check List
Mr Rudd was advised we would need about 12 cars for
dignitaries. Mr Gaughan will check the dimensions of
the reviewing stand and the flat bed trailer by next
meeting
Mrs Litchfield will send an invitation to Dan
Fenn at the White House.
Mrs Litchfield will call Mr Correll of Concord
to get his contacts with key individuals in the 18 towns
that participated in the Battle of Lexington with a view
to working with him to establish liaison with these
towns.
Mr Dasnery, the business representative of the GUESTS
Militia Men Junior Drum & Bugle Corp from Bedford
sponsored by the Anthony Hunt Hamilton American Legion
Post stated that his group would be in Arlington in the
morning and would like to be in the Lexington Parade in
the afternoon He was advised that they would be in-
vited by the American Legion Post of Lexington in the
near future
Mr Lincoln Cole presented a letter he had re-
ceived from the Sons of Union Veterans' Band requesting
an invitation to play in the afternoon parade After
discussion, it was agreed to send Maj Arthur A Hill
of this group a polite negative.
Mr Ben Nickerson of the DeMolay stated that
they would have a drill team and a float in the after-
noon parade He was given a float application and told
to contact Mr Rudd
The Chairman of our Committee, Mr Howard, will NEW
be the Marshal of the morning parade BUSINESS
it was aeciaea na commemorative plates will
be given to the women guests and honored guests Mr
Howard will suggest to the subcommittee that a Certifi-
cate of Appreciation be printed for all guests
The Committee agreed to continue the practice
of giving bowls to outgoing members of the Committee
who had served their full terms
