TOWN CELEBRATIOWS COMMITTEE

November 29, 1962
The Committee met at the Town Offices at 7 :45
p m Present were : Mrs Litchfield, Mrs. Fox, Mrs
Bayle, Messrs. Howard, Gaughan, Gilman and Barnes.
Absent were Mr. Poplawski and Mr DiGiammarino
The minutes of October 25 and November 8 were MINUTES
accepted as read
Mrs Litchfield received an acceptance from CORRES-
Hanscom Field , by Lt Guy E. Brown, Office of Com- PONDENCE
munity Relations The Public Relations Officer of
the field is Lt CoL Marion Alexander
The Coast Guard asked to be contacted again 2
months prior to ttie Parade.
Mrs Litchfield received a call from the Master
of George Washington Lodge, Harry Jorgensen, stating
that they would like to enter a float in the Patr) ots '
Day parade.
Mrs. Litchfield was authorized to send $25. to
the Sixth Massachusetts Continentals.
The committee voted to turn over its complete
files of films to the library in response to a request
from Mr Neiren. Mrs. Litchfield will so inform the
library and take over the transfer
Mrs Litchfield reported that the Committee had TREASURER'S
spent 44013 33 last year. The proposed budget for this REPORT
year is 85000. The increase was to meet anticipate&.
increased expenses due to the 250th celebration.
Speaker's Kit: The kits, designed to be a guide to 250TH
speakers, were gone over in detail. Mr Barnes was
asked to get together with Mr DIGammarino to prepare
visual aids preferably by Dec. 6.
Mrs Litchfield will get out a letter to
interested organizations.
Mrs Litchfield, Mr. Howard and Mr Gaughan DEC. 6 MTG.
divided up the list of organizations and will call
them individually to remind them of the importance of
attending the meeting

Mrs Litchfield will arrange for a meeting room
if the Selectmen's room is not available r
The films taken by the Air Force last Patriots'
Day have been sent to Hollywood for final editing of
film and script and will probably not be available for
the Dec 6. meeting
MINUTEMAN Mr Adams' reply saying that the Selectmen would
NATIONAL welcome specific suggestions and information on the
PARK part that Lexington should play in the National Park
was read. Mr. Howard will reply stating our desire to
have a study made to determine whether there is basis
for concern that Lexington is not taking full advantage
of its opportunity.
APRIL 19 Parade Theme : The following suggestions were made for
a theme :

No final decision was made
The importance of getting the people to the next
meeting was stressed
Individual assignments will be given to Committee mem-
bers next meeting based on last year's check list
Suggestions for Chief Marshall of the Parade were dis-
cussed and the name of Joe Rooney was mentioned
U. N. DAY Mr Howard reported that the Rotary Club had no
objections to the Elks giving all participants in the
U.N. Day contest notebooks
Mrs Bayle reported that Mrs Wilson of the
League of Women Voters said that the League had no ob-
jection so far as this year was concerned but they
would like to be consulted if other organizations were
going to be invited to participate in the Essay contest
in the future
After discussion it was decided that Mrs Bayle
inform Mrs Wilson that the Committee feels that U.N.
Essay sponsors should remain the League. the Rotary
Club and the Committee each playing the same roles as
in the past Perhaps the League might wish to consider
having each participant given a small token.
250TH Mr Parks reported for the subcommittee which
REPORT joined the Committee at this point in the meeting A
report of the subcommittee is appended Mr Welsh,
the chairman of the Minuteman Freedom Committee also
reported to the full committee. There was discussion

on Mr Welsh's request that the Committee give its
views on the question of who the invited guest should
be to best represent the South American Countries
Various plans for financing the Anniversary
celebrations were discussed and Mr Parks stated he
expected to have some word on whether the subcommittee
could count on receiving $1000 to be privately raised,
early next week
Mrs. LaPorte will check on the report that
Weston is also having a 250th Celebration this year
Mr Howard suggested that starting in January
the Subcommittee meet jointly with the full committee
each week for 30 to 40 minutes, beginning at 7145 p m.
This was agreed to and the Committee will try to ar-
range to meet in the Town Office Building regularly
