HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-10-11-TCC-min.pdf 479 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITT'2 October 11, 1962 The Committee met at the Town Offices at 7 :45 p.m. Present were : Mrs Litchfield, Mrs. Fox, Messrs Gilman, Poplawski and Barnes. Absent were : Messrs DiGiammarino, Gaughan and Howard (attended meet- ing of the 250th Committee) . Committee members agreed it was a good idea to GENERAL accept the previous minutes at the beginning of each BUSINESS meeting The minutes were accepted. Mr Barnes agreed to run the meeting in the absence of Mr. Howard. Mrs Fox said that to the best of her knowledge, Mrs Shirley Bayle was to come on the committee as our ninth member. Official word has not been received Mrs Fox reported that Mrs Pullen had called asking when she could present her ideas on the Lexing- tons in the United States for use in connection with the town' s anniversary She has a file on the subject, and believes it would be excellent publicity. Most of the members felt she should present this to the 250th Committee , and the matter will be referred to Mr. Howard. Mrs Fox also reported that she had written a memo to the 250th Committee suggesting that something should be done to display the work of the schools in connection with our anniversary. She will talk to that committee after U. N. Day. Mrs Litchfield reported that Mr Handley will U N. DAY be delighted to give the invocation at the morning e.eremnmyon-U-.-N.Dey Mr Poplawski spoke on the organization of the morning ceremony for U N. Day, and gave the names of the men who will lead the various military units. James P. O'Neil, President of the Lions, will present U.N flap to the Selectmen. At present we have 12 small U.N. flags, and one large one, and the Lions will give 6 more so we have one for each year of the U.N 's existence. Mrs Fox will ask at Cary Library if they will display the U.N. flag given to the town by the Grange. 480 Mrs Fox has seen Mrs Bears of Franklin School on their program, which will take place at 2 p m U.N. Day A rock maple is to be planted, and the plaques are in the hands of the Park Department Mr Barnes suggested that Mr William Roger Greeley be asked to Franklin's program as he was the architect of the school, and instigated the planting of the original U. N. Day tree on the Green Mrs Fox went to the World Council in Boston to obtain posters for display in all places of business in Lexington for U N. Day These are to be distributed Friday evening and Saturday the weekend before U.N. Day Five members of the Elks will take posters and distri- bute them A list should be kept of the places covered, and attempts should be made to interest them in special displays The group of the LWV who are holding a U N. workshop will be able to supply 3 members to distribute posters, and Mrs Fox will contact them. Mr. Bevis will be asked if he will again cover the Countryside area with posters for display. Mr Barnes suggested that a check list should be made of everything that needs to be covered for U.N. Day, and that some of the planning be done in June. It was agreed that this would be very helpful to the U.N. Day chairman Patricia Fox, Recording Secretary, Pro tem
