HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-09-27-TCC-min.pdf 72 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 27, 1962 The Committee met at the Town Offices at 7 :45 p.m Present were : Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Howard, Gilman, Barnes, Gaughan, Poplawski. Mr DiGiammarino was absent CORRES- Mrs Litchfield read some letters to the Commit- PONDENCE tee, including copies of letters sent by Concord in- viting Gen Verbeck and the National Commander of the American Legion U.N. DAY Mr Poplawski reported that he has met with Mr DiGiammarino to discuss U.N. Day, and that everything is in good order The one problem is whether there should be a speaker for that day, and he has reserved the High School auditorium for the evening of the 24th in the event it is needed The plan for the ceremony on the Green has been prepared, and copies will be given to committee mem- bers Mr Poplawski would like to have Mr Handley present He is the Chaplain of the Minute-Men The President of the Rotary Club will be in- vited to the High School, and also the judges of the essay contest. Mr Fox will get in touch with Mrs Bears of the Franklin School in regard to the tree-planting ceremony there. Three issues of the Minute-Man will come out before U N Day Mr Poplawski will coo over publicity with Mrs Fox THANKS- Mr Gaughan reported on plans for the Community GIVING Thanksgiving service He feels that the response to our request for choirs has not been wood Everyone re- quested a program of the Service Mr Revis of Temple Isaiah told Mrs Litchfield that his choir would be pleased to participate, and she also heard that the Methodist Church would be glad to help Mr Howard said that by October 11 plans for Thanksgiving should be ready Mr Gaughan brought up the fact that although 35 notices were sent out re- garding Thanksgiving, no one came to this meeting Mr Gilman said this should be done by a personal call 47 :3 • f Mr Gaughan reported that he had been unable to secure a speaker yet Mrs Fox said that we have overwhelming evidence of apathy on the part of most of the town towards this Thanksgiving Service, and that it would comply with the Rules of Order, if a member of the committee, who voted for the Service last spring, was willing to bring the matter to a vote again Mr Poplawski moved that this be done Discussion followed, including the reading of the June 7, 1962 minutes by Mr Howard The motion was made and seconded that : the Town Celebrations Committee requests that the Board of Select- men relieve it of the responsibility for sponsoring the Community Thanksgiving Celebration because of the gen- eral lack of interest and participation by the community and clergy The motion carried , and Mr Howard will attend the Se] ectmen' s meeting on Monday to present our case.
